I had to get rid of my 86 Trooper II a few years back and miss it like hell, but now I am ready to step up to the LC.

Looking at ads all over, sometimes it says sunroof. So was it a factory option or are they all after-market?

And if after-market, poppa taught me that after-market sunroofs are very dangerous in a rollover due to a possible roof collapse. Would this be true of LC's as well, if it was after-market of course?

Cant wait to get my first LC, any sellers within 300 miles of L.A.?

Was poppa talking about installations of aftermarket sunroofs where roof supports were cut? If so, he may have been right. This isn't always necessary. Call C. R. Laurence in greater L.A. & ask them. They sell high-quality sunroofs with real guarantees & parts available long after production. I'm putting one in my '84 after all the other drivetrain/suspension mods (in other words, a year or two).

Not factory in US (low roof) models, but in many cases, dealer-installed and supported.

IMHO, I don't think it's a good idea to cut the roof on a 60 to put a sunroof in. Unless you go with a well est company (Like "Websato") what happens when they go out of buss? What if you need a new gasket when yours starts to leak? I would just leave the 60 alone, and open a window.

why not get a power one from the breakers, benifit of being power, parts would be available from the dealer, or the breakers, and you would get the innner support structure that could be tied into your roof structure. Down side would be the amount of time involved, and whether or not you did the work your self the cost involved. I was looking at a power roof for my wives lc donor is a honda prelude. low profile, power motor above the water line(lol).

Here a few hi roof 60 series comes with sun roof. So maybe if you really want you can pic all those parts and adapt it to your 60 ..

anycase I sure was not cheap ..

Jwest -
Good sunroofs allow for the corrugaton. We use windshield adhesive instead of the supplied butyl tape to seal ours. And we use what I consider the best US sunroofs( C R Laurence) who have replacement parts going back to their first models. They used to sell Webasto electrics, but now only deal in their own. Golde & Webasto are OEM German sunroofs going back to the 1960s.

It IS nerve-racking to cut a hole in a perfectly good car. I was taught by the head of the CRL sunroof factory & he even helped install a buddy's wife's Webasto sunroof (she threatened her husband & me with worse than death if we screwed it up & he's an excellent professional mechanic). The sunroof boss said he always uses the instructions & he's installed hundreds of sunroofs himself. So I always use the instructions.

CRL has a book that tells you whether you need to cut supports, move a dome light, etc by make, model, & year, & a tech support department that helps with questions/problems.

If anyone wants to know, I'll find out what models fit (by size, usually) & whether supports are in the way & if you have to re-wire or move the dome light). Only problem is individuals can't buy from CRL - wholesale only.
