Hey guys, searched for this but only came up with the generic sunroof leak threads.

Anyway, my friend has a '98 and his sunroof leaks. The sunroof is jammed, and I think it's jammed in a position where it's not fully closed by like a mm or two, but that causes it to leak like crazy. You hear the motor click for a second but no movement of the glass on either slide or tilt. He said before that it would get slower and slower as time went by and finally quit working all together.

He's not really concerned about getting it to work because he has never really used it anyway (plus he's too cheap to fix it, especially seeing how the dealership quoted him $2,500), but wants to fix the leak because he always takes a shower after it rains and has a flooded footwell.

I'm wondering:

  1. Is there is a replacement seal or do we have to replace the whole sunroof glass.
  2. Can we get the glass out by taking off the black trim pieces on the glass, unscrewing those adjustment screws and pulling the glass out... Or does the whole headliner have to come out just to replace the glass.
He figures a new fatter seal may help and if that doesn't work he'd just use liquid electrical tape to seal it.

Sorry for the long-winded post.

Cheers,

Rich
