I opened my sunroof the other day and all I heard was grinding...... :(
attempted to close and it wouldn't close alone. I was able to assist it to close by hand.
I tried to open and close it a few more times to diagnose the problem. When it would open it seems like it would open about halfway, and then the grinding noise would begin. Also as the glass is sliding open it seems that one side is being pulled/pushed faster than the other side and the glass is jamming in the track, or at least not opening straight. When it closes now it will tilt open, and then when I close it, it will not close flush, it closes with the rear of the glass about a centimeter below the roof level. I have fear of water leaks and bigger fears of not being able to use the sun roof. I like sunroofs - don't want to seal it shut like other threads I've seen here :( any idea what a resolution could look like? I'm thinking unbolt half the headliner and see if I can remove the whole assembly to repair or realign something....?

From what you are describing the cable or cables have decided to separate causing the erratic movement, you have to remove the entire sunroof module to fix it or replace it. The cables run along the track which is connected to the glass if one of the cable breaks it will be impossible to get
it to close again. Call the dealer and see if they sell a kit to replace just the cables or maybe the entire sunroof module. I would find a use one in
your case if parts cost an arm and a leg.
