Low key day today.
Just spent a few hours at an Eagle Scout ceremony for one of the boys in my troop.
I get a good feeling every time we do one of these, James is the 4th Eagle in as
many years. It's good to know that we are still raising boys with good ethics.

Big family dinner tonight, and a day off tomorrow.
Cruiser content, its still in the garage!

Awsome
I sometimes I wish I had my presentation, got my eagle, but never had the presentation. About 8 years later my old scout master gave me my award in the box, with all the other stuff, said he had found it while he was cleaning up old scout stuff.

I spent today in the shop getting a little closer to putting engine/bellhousing/trany/tcase together. Trying to get the motor on the engine stand to roll it over and check main bearings. I swear there is a special place in hell for people who use superglue type junk on cork oil pan gaskets :censor:

Making the next shoping lists, one for the parts store and one for when I head up to wallys next... after finding my flywheel was junk on fri.

I had a pretty good cruiser day today as well. Worked on some much needed cables for the battery and starter and took the trooper for a nice ride(+20 miles) which it has not been on yet.

Got my first "you know thats diesel fuel you're puttin in there, right?" response at the station....Of course I had to mess with the guy..."oh no!..really!?" looking all upset. If I had been an eagle scout I most likely wouldn't have done that....:)

I got a good cruiser day in. Picked up the parts cruiser I bought. Pulled the front axle out of it. Started to strip out the interior of it.

shoveled the roofs in anticipation of rain
finished bending the remaining tube for the roll bar
watched the race-Go Newman!!!!
we have another ice storm in progress, I thought it was supposed to snow in the winter?

Just think how much snow we would have if the last few storms were not rain!
Still have 2 feet of snow on the ground, and the snow total is getting close to
80 inches.
I've got doors on my shop that swing out and those won't open because of the ice.
the floor inside has ice all over it where the rain has come under the doors and frozen.
Another month and it will start melting.

Spent the weekend installing the H55 into the troopy. Please pass the Advil! Huge help from Tim and JR which made it possible in such a short amount of time. Transferred the TC parking brake output shaft from one case to another and mounted the PTO gearbox. It's a tight fit but it will work with some minor trimming to the tranny cover. Removed the cross member and will relocate behind the gas tank. Dropping the drive shafts off this week to be shortened and lengthened.

Found out that the clutch is new so I don't need the SOR 2H clutch kit that I have. Still in the box if anyone needs one. Will sell it for less due to restocking fee and shipping.

The rear main seal appears to be OK, so now I need to figure out where the oil leak is coming from. Will be dropping the oil pan for a looky as well as replacing the valve cover gasket. Anyone have a good 2H oil pan?

A 5th gear!

PS-Lane, calipers to ship this week.

Randy,
You can probably repair the oil pan. I had the same issue with my old F engine, what I did was buy a spot weld drill bit and remove the welds holding the skid plate to the oil pan. You should be able to see and drill the welds from the insde of the pan. I don't know if the 2H pan has a baffle or not but it will be spot welded too. Once that is off it will be obvious where it's leaking/rotted through, if it's not obvious then fill the pan with water and it will be. Or do the quick and dirty and weld anything that looks like it might leak. These pans are very thick steel compared to others and are not hard to weld. Test by filling the pan with water. I wish we had more time last weekend to pull the pan and chase oil leaks. If you want to bring it up to Tims we'll fix it and I'll give you those Mini knuckles too. Advil? won't cut it! Been eating Aleve like M&Ms

Randy,
2H oil pans are hard to come by. It took me 2 years to find the pan and side covers. I passed up a brand new pan early for $120 and wished I had bought that one. Privateparts,EBAY.au sometimes has them. My 2H weeps oil. I replaced the rear main and sidecover gaskets . That helped but need to replace the pan.

You're right Gary, the pans are hard to find. The only one I've found was at SOR and more than I am willing to spend. $120 seems like a bargain now.

Sounds like good advice JR and will follow your plan. It's the upper leak above the starter that has me wondering where it's coming from. I suppose it will become more clear after fixing the pan and replacing the valve cover gasket.

How much difrent is a 1F pan than a 2F? I have one that I thought was leaking, but now that I have it off it might have not been :embarsed:

Made a beam

7.5in square, 12ft long. Cherry. Cut it and moved it with a sled, yep I need some advil. Cut, split and hauled about a cord and a half of standing dead wood as well.

Yep, got about 2-3ft snow up here, then a bunch of rain and then a freeze got it good and crunchy.

Nice hat!

Nice work and a beautiful piece of wood.

Are you building an addition on the van?
Some day.

Spud are you making your own lumber?
That was the plan. It is some seriously hard work, so I am not sure how much I will actually produce. Got a nice start on a serious beam.

Nice hat!
Rabbit fur, it was 14 degrees and with a stiff breeze, this past Sat. AM.

So I got this boardmaster, looks pretty easy and straight forward to use. http://www.hud-son.com/includes/webboardmaster resized format picture.jpg

1. Drilled out two holes to mount the jig to the ol' Stihl 310.
2. Cut down large standing deadwood cherry.
3. Screwed 5/4x6" board to the trunk log.
4. Discovered the board is too wide:crybaby:, had to plane off about 1/4inch down the whole 12foot of board so the jig would slide.
5. Stripped the sides off with the chainsaw.
6. Hauled the beam to the cabin about 50/75 yards with a sled.

Well, my wife helped a bunch. No way I could move it by myself it must have been close to 500lbs @ about 13ft overall, (did I mention there is 2-3ft snow). Once I square the ends it should be 12ft at least.
