The ever-increasing cost of living and through-the-roof gas prices are taking their toll. It’s becoming ever more important for us to stay active in our club as well as remaining contributors to state and federal efforts to keeping the trails open. GSMTR registration hasn’t yet hit the halfway mark needed for the event to break in to the red, and there’s already talk of this year being the last year for the event. Very sad indeed.

With the cost of fuel these days, this may very well be my last trip south to attend.

Possible open seat for GSMTR

My wife is on the fence about attending this year. Her mother from California wants to visit around that time and has already purchased her airfare so I’m guessing that she’s 99.9% out. That means I’ll likely have an open seat for the event. It’s a long ride doing it solo towing a trailer…

Before I ‘officially’ put it out there, is there any interest from anyone on the list in taking the week after Mothers Day off and attending what might be the final hoorah for GSMTR with me? Transportation and accommodations are already arranged, just need to pack a bag and get some grub. I’m trying to have a ‘Plan B’ in place for when my wife officially says she isn’t going. Her biggest fear with not attending is that I'll have to do all the driving without a co-pilot (and it is a long trip).

Lemme know if you’re interested in going. I know it’s short notice and all. Just trying to get a feel for things to see if anyone’s interested.

allright..... let me lobby. I just need to import my mom to sit for the week. Thanks for the offer Mike... I'll let ya know SAP.

I am wondering if this year should be the year of 'car pool to GSMTR' ????

Just people showing up would make our voice heard, not strictly one rig per person... once there, you can paddle the Ocoee or Tellico Rivers, fish, camp, hike, and wheel at 6K ft... not easy recreation to find on the east coast. Show support!

How could anyone pass up what could be the last GSMTR? I'll see you there, camping at McNabb Overflow if anyone cares to join us.

The GSMTR has been doomed ever since they moved the main camp away from McNabb. I say, get back to "roots" for next year!

It doesn't help that the best tails are pretty much gone.

If this is the final one, I will be saddened. I attended my first GSMTR in '94 and have been hooked ever since!

Yeah, the cost of fuel will have a significant impact on our off roading hobby. I've been trying to get to Moab for the last three years for CM. I had to schedule it firm this year as I am sure I won't ever be able to afford the cost of fuel to drive the LC cross country again. It's going to kill as is. I think about this alot and it's depressing.
