I do not have any guts for my brakes on the front. just the lines. Is there a cheap way to get a brake setup? disc or drum? any junkyard conversions?

I need a key switch (whole thing) and headlight switch for a FJ40. Does anybody have any used ones?

What about a master cylinder and brake booster? It seems ridiculous for the price that they are asking for a master cylinder for this. Will a chevy corvette dual master and a small booster work? Any junkyard conversions for this also?

I know that I am going to get the "look in the FAQ's " for this, but would like to discuss this and everybody has been a lot of help so far.

Thanks
Mark

I don't think the words cheap and brakes go together. Take your time with them and make sure you get some good quality wheel cylinders. I've seen where some people have gotten brake parts at local auto parts stores. I used Toyota parts on mine when it was drum. You may try Cruiser Dan and see how much he can get you the parts for. I finally got lucky and put a complete '78 disc front end under mine and the wife and son got me a rear disk conversion for Christmas a couple of years ago. As far as your master cylinder question I couldn't tell you. Where are you located I might have a headlight switch.

Why spend the money on drum parts when you can get disk parts for the same price. I'd even look for a 76+ disc front end. They're $200-$300. Do a search and there is a thread about master cylinders. You can find them for under $100. You can get a booster rebuilt for $130 by Dewey. Just google "Booster Dewey" and you'll find him.

Or.... get the knuckles on out for an FJ60 and do a disc brake upgrade while retaining your present axle.

If you checked the FAQ's you would have learned that the front axle from a 79 to 85 mini truck would give you all of the parts you need to convert to a disc brake setup. It works great. One of the best mods I've done ever. I bought my axle for a hundred bux, replaced the solid rotors for vented ones and upgraded the calipers to 4 piston, all toyota, and rebuilt it. works great and it cost me less than 400 bux.

If you want I just took all parts off from my disc brake conversion you can have for free :D
