So today I get in my LX start it up, it starts fine but it would not accelerate, i floored it and it barley went anywhere, then I saw the check engine light, I checked the oil, it was fine, then after a couple min I started it again and it worked fine.

What Happened, anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

throttle position sensor?

thanks, I'm taking it to Lexus on tuesday!

It started doing it again this time in the middle of the street!

When you press on the throttle you hear a click, click, engine just idles!

P1120 Accelerator Position Sensor Malfunction

I'd say almost definitely Accelerator Position Sensor failure. I had this happen last January.

The OBD II code is P1120

I would advise against driving the vehicle as much as possible, because of the dangers posed by the thing failing in the middle of the road as you said. That's how mine first went out, and I almost got hit because I couldn't accelerate out of the way of another car. Shudder to think what would happen if it failed on the freeway.

I would also advise on being prepared to be without the vehicle for about a week. As you can see on the paperwork I've scanned in below (emitting my identifying data for obvious reasons), I took it in with the problem the morning of the 14th, and got it back on the 19th.

It's not cheap either - the cost of the part is $300.33 with labor of $195.88 = 496.21 + 24.78tax = $520.99

Merry Christmas..... sry :frown:

WOW a 2000 LX470 with 33K miles, you don't drive much do you :)

I had the same problem a couple months ago. My repair cost about $600, but it only took one day. Be sure to have them clean out the intake while they are in there.

The official line is that the vehicle goes into "limp" mode, allowing only 25% power, so that you can get it off the road safely.

Depending on your miles, it may be a good time to do the starter contacts as well, since they are halfway there with this repair.

Good Luck

Thanks,

Would this problem also relate to the ETC (pwr button), because I noticed that was off, when I pushed it, it would not turn on, or could the light just be out?

Thanks

Well, I inherited this from my grandfather after his stroke took away his ability to drive - It had 24500 in Sept. '05 when I got it, 15months later, it has 54800 on it.

So yeah, he didn't drive much, but I sure do!

Wow, this is very interesting. These seems like its poping up on alot of 2000's.

Should I be worried now that my gas pedal wont work when i need it most? Was there a secret TSB out for this or what? When was each of your LC/LX's made? Mine was on December 1st 1999 as a 2000 model.

I had this happen two times with my 98 at ~70k miles. Truck went into "limp mode", I pulled off the road and turned off the truck. Waited 30 seconds and restarted with no problems. CEL lit but cleared itself in about 20 miles. I was worried but the problem has not repeated itself in a year and I am now at 100k. I would not replace parts if you just have just one "limp mode" experiance. The TPS or APPS seems to be poorly designed and the new part may have the same intermittant error.

Others seem to fail completely and obviously need replaced.

Anyone else have a "intemittant" TPS error that resolved itself w/o repair ?

Mine is a 1999!

It happened once like 4 weeks ago but went away, yesterday it happened over six times while driving!

So today I get in the car, start it up, just to see what happens out of curiosity; it started but fell to 0rpm and the A/T Tran Oil light came on!

I'm scared now!

well if it started and then dropped to 0RPM, mine has been doing that lately too.

But i think its because i was driving the LS430 for a month and now when i get in the LX470, i have a habbit of not holding the starter long enough because im so used to the 430 motor.

LOL

A Lexus on a flat bed! (Taking it on Tuesday)

Anyone else have that problem; start the car and it idles for a sec and falls back down to 0rpm?

Sounds like the ECU saying "Tow Me".

a lexus on a flatbed is so terrible. I hate to see it! When my Ignition broke and i couldnt start the car i had to get it towed, at least it broke in my driveway.

Val, when you say it starts for a second and then stops, does it crank over and when you get off the starter it drops dead as its trying to come down to idle? Does it studder at all and try and rev back up?

It starts but then goes zero!

It starts perfect, idles then drops in a secound!

The CEL and A/T Tran Oil lights come on!

It puts a tear in my eye to see my LX in such pain!
