No Harm, No Foul Rich. Guess I took that the wrong way, and I see where you are coming from. It's just a sore spot with me because, in this day and age, everyone is so possessive of their land it has gotten ridiculous. I am an avid hunter, and there was a time when almost any farmer would gladly grant permission to hunt their land. But now people are so scared they are going to wind up in court you don't even step foot on private property.

Trust me, I wheel where I have permission, and only in those areas. I would advise it to anyone who doesn't too, but I took you to mean I was in the wrong. Damn forums make it hard to interpret people's words sometimes.

Rich, I think if you ask any of the guys who know me that I am pretty laid back and don't get worked up about much. That stuff about the club is pure-T clownin' around.

Peace offering

I am also an avid outdoorsman and agree that the sue happy society we live in has ruined much of what we once enjoyed and took for granted. Much of the land I grew up using is now off limits too.

In defense of the farmers / land owners though, many have restricted their land because people are too fawkin lazy and short sighted to take care of and respect something that isn't theirs. The litter, vandalism and just plain moronic choices some folks routinely choose to make ruins it for everyone.

At the Uwharrie ride last weekend, we were the lead truck and every time we got too far ahead of the group, we'd stop and get out to pick up trash. We ended up with 5 grocery bags full of crap that some lazy dumb a** decided to toss out their window while riding instead of doing the right thing. Same thing backpacking in the Linville Gorge a few weeks ago. I had 3 full 30 gallon trash bags tied to the front ARB bumper by the time we left and our trash accounted for a single grocery bag of that.

It goes on everywhere and is inexcusable. To be honest, I don't blame folks for shutting down access to the land they own.

Until society in general can understand the necessity and importance of being a good stewards of our of natural resources, it will only get worse and more restricted.

 * Rant off. *

I'll see your  and raise you a  ... It's cool, and I'm glad that's how you meant it.. just caught me off guard, and not having met many of ya, I didn't catch on to the humor..

I was hoping it had to all be in fun, as I am hoping to met more of you all, more often.. 1 month till my junk is done, then a normal life can resume.. :D

Not to drive the discussion off track (ha!), but with all of the Durham 'Cruisers posting in this thread, I thought maybe I'd ask here. I haven't lived in NC for about 10 years, but my parents still live there and we usually make it down for visits once or twice a year. I've been looking around here in Ohio without much luck for a nice fj-40 I might be able to fix up and mentioned to my father that it might almost be easier to get one down there and cart it back up here.

I knew a Cruiserhead that helped me do a little body work on my old fj-40 back when I was in high school, but he moved to the outskirts of Hillsborough last I remember. Anyway, since we'll be back down around Durham in a couple weeks, I thought maybe someone here might have heard from him and might know how I could get in touch with him and catch up on old times. His name's Jack (I know his last name, but I don't know how kosher it is giving out full names on public forums without permission), and when I knew him he drove a pretty sweet beige fj-40, I think it was maybe a '76, but not sure. I don't know how close the rest of the Durham Cruiserheads are anymore, I remember it being a fairly close-knit circle back when I lived in the area, but I only had my truck for about 8 months before I moved away and my parents gave it away to some guys from Virginia.

I only thought to ask here when mtweller mentioned pulling this fzj80 out with his Silverado; until I saw the picture, I thought maybe he was the same guy that helped pull me out of a creek once when we did a little midnight off-roading (ironically enough, not too far from Hope Valley ;) )

If anyone can help me out, it'll be much appreciated. Perhaps even repaid with  in a couple weeks.

Talking about Jack Ingold?

He's still got it, and it's a tank now...

Jack's good people..

Yeah, that's exactly who I'm talking about. Glad to see my silly reminiscing wasn't completely in vain. :)

Know if there's any way I can get in touch with him? You can send me a PM if it involves much in the way of personal info. I don't even know if he'd remember me at all; last I saw him, I was helping him clear some lumber out so he could build the driveway for his house and hewas expecting a baby. If you see him, tell him Brian, with the red Chevota mutt and the black Toyota pick-up says hi.

To add a little more to the thread, there's two entrances to Eno River State Park along Cole Mill Rd.: one towards the end, where it intersects with Pleasant Green, and another at the intersection with Umstead. There's actually quite a few spots back there I used to go off-road, though obviously not back in the state park. I don't know how much of it's been developed since I lived there, but there used to be a lot of good spots all around the rectangular area between Pleasant Green, St. Mary's, Bivins, Craig, and Umstead Rd.

My parents live off Russell, and I used to know the area pretty well, though I notice more changes every time we're back in the area. We did a lot of improvement projects in both sections of the park between Boy Scout projects and high school community service type stuff. There's probably even still a couple of foot bridges and trail markers back there with our initials on 'em.
