Not an expert, but they're not the same in the US market. (If you're talking about the outer birfield axle.)

In your neck of the woods, the outer axle stubs would be the same; drum brake/disc brake.

The only thing you may run into is the slight different (shorter) length in the outer stub compared to axles previous to 01/1979.

There are a few subtle variations on CV's some are slightly longer some shorter I assume this is due to disc and drum.
There is also another difference I have come across and that's the flat spot on the top and bottom of the CV. i have seen 2 variations of this. The small flat spots will not fit an axle that suits large flat spots. However the axle that suits large flat spots will suit both. The larger flat spots are more prone to failing too as there is less meat. Length of the splines on the CV is different too.
I think the small flat spots are the later ones but don't quote me.

Pic too now.

Toyota changed the size of the outer axle stub in 01/1979. I could see the previous years drum brake units used in the global market being the longer, smaller units, as that is what was used in the NA disc brake trucks until 01/79....
