I bought 2 x 225lbs struts and I was wondering how I should mount it to the trailer and especailly to the LID? Seeing that the lid is aluminium should I reinforce were I mount it? Can you please help and maybe also send me photos of how to mount the your struts to lid and trailer? Are they lasting? I dont want to bend or rip the aluminium lid. Thanks

I think you'll find 225's to be OVERKILL. IIRC the PO on my trailer had purchased 250 lb struts and I gave those to the fabricator for a steel lid. He ended up purchasing some 150's and w/o a RTT it's a pull to close a steel lid.

Probably help to have pics of what you're working with.
^ yep

what the length and pressure is...
will help determine their precise mounting points.
There is a science to it... McMaster-Carr
But many folk install them using trial and error methods.

ie: shorter lower pressure strut mounting variations...

ie: longer high pressure strut mounting variations...

Dependent of length...
a higher pressure strut can be minimized using more angle at it's mounts...
depending how those are set (mounted) will determine how far your lid might open.

Yes you will need to make strong mounting brackets...
preferably made of steel, so there is little chance of deformation.

thanks for the quick lid strut mounting diagrams. I find Mcmaster Carr to be a bit long winded.
