hello all

im striping down the steering knuckles on my HJ75.

ive been trying to remove the the knuckle housing.

all the nuts, washers and cone washers came off easily.

but getting the steering arm and lower bearing retainer plate is proving difficult. it seems the bearings are stuck/attached to the steering arm and retainer plate on the inside of the knuckle housing is this right?

i do not want to damage the bearings nor the shims.

is there a trick to dismantling it or do i use brute force?

tricks

Dont know if theres any tricks but your right you do not want to damage the shims , I would say just tap the knuckle up and down with steps of brutality and hopefully get enough movement to get them loose, or try removing studs and be able to twist them off.

Are you going to use the new life-time seal?

oooh that sounds interesting. whats/where do i get a life time seal?

this is my first time doing this so im sort finding each seal that corresponds to the seals i have in the replacement kit.

life time seal

yep its a new seal from the longfield operation read about it in the vendor section,
additional good reading is a article by Steve Turchet entitled MV knuckle service
and even more interesting is at novak adapt early jeep steering knuckle ( knowlege section)

under all the grease i found there are dimbles on the inside of the bearing plates. it was just a matter of tapping them out with a punch.

my Gregory manual made no mention of the bearing plates been stubborn to remove.

no harm came to any bearings or shims.
