Since the 1999s had a 2 pinion front differential, what are the most reasonable ways to upgrade / strengthen the front end without breaking the bank?

Some have upgraded to a 4 pinion, while others have gone the locker route.

Any ballpark figures for what it takes to do either one?

The 4-pinion route will depend on what you can find used. I suspect $2-300 4-pinion carriers can be acquired on the used market. For the locker, you're looking at least $1,200 for the locker plus compressor. Install costs on both unless you do it yourself.

Well , I have bought mine in stages to spread out the cost. First I bought the locker and now I am saving and wait for install $$$. I have gone the elocker route which reduces the install costs some. It should be interesting as many 98 and 99 100s are now being wheeled more now then ever and have not see too many busted diffs.
