Hi!
I just bought a 2004 Land Cruiser, 150k miles. It‘s a great car, however, a few days off the lot I noticed something strange:
At around 60mph and higher the steering wheel starts shaking at regular, cyclical intervals. It shakes about 2.5 seconds, then it stops shaking for 2.5 seconds, then it shakes again for 2.5 sec, etc... at very regular intervals - as though some frequencies are going in and out of phase. The source of the vibration is definitely towards the front of the car.
Had the tires balanced twice, but the problem persisted. At the second balancing, the tire shop noticed that the previous owner had put spacers on all of the wheels. I had the spacers removed and the tire shop noticed that the hubs of the front wheels are after market, because they stick out so far that the hub caps can’t even be placed back on (as they hit the hub). Removing the spacers seems to have reduced the vibrations considerably - but it seems to be still there.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
Further, can anyone recommend a reliable shop in Southern California (near Riverside / San Bernardino / San Diego county) that has experience with the 100 LC? I definitely want the front hubs replaced to original and maybe have the transmission and differential checked, in case the vibrations are are caused by something more serious.
Many thanks!
Sam
