Strange noise from sump area (1 Viewer)

Hi there,

Lately I have noticed a knocking type sound coming from my 1PZ motor (1990).

I used a stethoscope on the sump but it was not that profound. However the closer I got to the pulley wheel the more profound it became. I then noticed that the main pulley (one with double belts) was running sort of wobbly and not really in sync. Also my oil pressure gauge is as it always has been for the past 4 years.

Can anyone possibly provide me with some guidance on what the issue is?

Looks to me like your harmonic balancer is shot. I don't know about the 1PZ, but on the 2L-TE if it gets bad enough it can cause damage to the crankshaft.
