So we just spent the afternoon removing my buddy's exhaust from his Dodge and replacing it with a dump'ed straight pipe before the rear axle. We basically just deleted everything from the cats back...and it sounds pretty good! Nice low rumble, and opens up when you get on it. Slightly obnoxious... but hey, you're only allowed to be a loud college kid for a couple of years haha. But I was curious if anyone had straight piped a cruiser before? Not that I'm planning on doing so, but I really do like the sound since I've chopped off my resonator... I'd probably just feel dumb driving a Land Cruiser with obnoxious exhaust, but I definitely do want something more throaty. Did a search, and couldn't find of anyone who had done a straight pipe before, just a number of other exhaust systems. Just either a dump where the muffler was, or weld in a straight pipe right back to a new tip was what I had in mind... Installing new exhaust is on the everlasting list of mods, but was considering slapping in a straight pipe before I replace the muffler just to cure my curiosity

I would not do straight pipes on the 100. The 2UZ-FE does not sound good with no muffler. It sounds like a parade of lawn mowers running over kittens. The 2UZ-FE also likes back pressure, without that you can kiss low end torque goodbye, and MPG's. Also buy some Advil, your head will need it.

Hahaha that's what my guess was. I figured Toyota had a pretty well designed exhaust system to get the most out of the motor they could-at least the rest of the truck seems that way. A guy back home straight piped his 80 series....and it sounded like a pissed off tractor (not in a good way either). Figured if the V6 sounded that bad, I can't imagine the 4.7

Agreed! The only gas motors that sound good straightpiped are the 3SGTE and 2JZGTE. Any diesel would sound good though!
