stock suspension height

what is the stock suspension height and what is the proper way to measure it?

did a search and read through a few threads, but still not clear..

do you measure from the center of axle to fender well? I'm trying to figure out if my suspension is even near the stock height.

i think there are several ways to do it. the one you mentioned is one.

another is ground to frame and another is ground to fenderwell.

(last 2 you have to have the same size tires, etc. So center of axle to fender lip is rather accurate accross the board)

do you know what the stock measurement is? from axle center to fender lip? I was curious if anyone knew. I guess you could reverse the number out of a new lift that was x" over stock.


i've got:

17" cl axle to fender rim rear
20" cl axle to fender rim front

when we talking about 6" of lift I thought are over stock .. taking the stock springs at stock heigh as the bottom line to take a measurement about the lift . ?

stock height(of rig not suspension) of a 82 fj60 would be 69.5"

Stock for US 1988 62 is 68.9" (why not just 70"?)

I always look at the space at the bumpstops. The stock 60's NOW all have about 1/2" to 3/4" at the front, and maybe 2" in the rear(tired old springs). I never looked at one in 1985 so I don't know what they were new. Sorry if this is useless info.

anyone want to measure their Dakar cl axle to fender rim? just wondering what the numbers would be. and if your felling kind list some of the heavy stuff you've added, I guess that would affect the height

I didnt measure there when I started, I did measure frame to ground and fenderwell to ground. Didnt think about the center of axle to fenderwell

I'm pretty sure that the stock measurement from the centre of the hub to the bottom of the fender is 19" front and 18" rear.

I have an old Overlander Magazine in which a review is done OME suspension (dated January 1986!). They state the standard measurement between the bumpstops to the top of the axle as; front = 45mm and rear = 65mm.

thanks, the 19"/18" is what i was wondering. I'm trying to estimate the amount of "old suspension sag" i would guess that if the back goes down. the front would lift x" based on rotating off the axis that the rear sags along.

i wonder where this is measured. there is an arc over the length of roof, low in front and back and high in the middle. about an 1/2" difference. i measured 68.4" at high spot in middle

stock:
(height) 69.5"
(axle to fender rim; front/back) 19"/18"

old 60:
(height) 68.4"
(axle to fender rim; front/back) 20"/17"

do you think i could get away with just fixing the rear springs to get back to a stockish height?
