i thought it was 650 but my rig idles at 750. i dont know if my tac. is off or not?

can anyone tell me what rpm they are doing at a certian speed. like 50 mph.
so i can check if im idling high or my tac is off.

thanks agian,

OE Tach's are notouriously bad. (ie, not accurate).

I'd tend to agree. Mine reads between 750 and 1000 most of the time... but feels more like 650, etc.

oh sorry forgot to state that my OE tac ate the dust and i put in an after market one. and i think its a 100rpms off but if its not the case than im idling a high...sorry bout that lil part..
thanks

650 is correct, mine is dead on, I check it with a dwell/tach

with the AC it shoud be a few hun higher

ac, like the windows down :) haha thanks pimp..

that would be 4x55 AC :D

Where do you hook up the dwell/tack meter?
My idle is somewhat high. ~900-1000 rpms. Sometimes it comes down to ~750. If I pull up on the pedal with my foot the idle goes does ~50 rpms. I just wanted to find out what the exact rpms are. The guage is not easy to read.

Thanks
Chris

Do most timing lights have a dwell meter in them? I am looking into buying one with a electonic advance.

Mine reads around 800rpms when idling. I am curious to see how bad off it is.

A tach / dwell meter should get it's signal from the coil. There is a wire that goes from the coil to the tach on the dash. You unplug it and hook up the dwell meter.

I've never seen a timing lite with a dwell/tach. Don't mean it's not out there tho.

Off hand I don't remember. If you look in the Haynes or FSM they have wiring diagrams. Find the one for the ignition system. There will be a wire that goes from the coil to the tach. That's the one you unhook.

Whoa I looked at the coil last night and I'm not sure where to start, there are more wires on there than I thought. I'll have to get a manual first.

on a 60 elec ign, there are 2 green plugs on the ignitor, one is the tach the other is the main power to the coil, if you unplug one and the cruiser wont start.......then the other is the tach.

if you hooking up a dweel/tach I think you just clip the lead to the + on the coil......if not its the neg, it won't hurt if you get it wrong.

Yea, what he said.

Seriously thought. If you don't have a manual, you really should. Haynes is good enough for most things. Factory are better but pricy. It's pretty easy to find in the wiring diagram.
