Stock 1979 FJ40 with factory AC & PS in CHICAGO **SOLD**

I picked this up over a jear ago to join my stable of three other FJ40's. It appealed to me primarily because it had FACTORY AC and PS, and because it was completely stock - down to the smog/vacuum snakepit being unmolested.

I rebuilt the carb using a Hyster kit at which time I replaced the majority of vacuum lines. A few were discionnected which had me scratching around for a factory emissions manual which a fellow 'Mudder provided me with.

Vehicle has original 2F straight-six engine and manual 4-speed transmission. Engine has good compression readings of 125/130/130/125/130/130 psi. Transfer case shifts from 2wd to 4wd (hi and low) and drives in all configuarations. Transmission and clutch operate well. Air conditioing works and blows cold air with R134a recharge - a welcome feautre for hot days in a steel tub.

Power steering is complete with cooler lines, pump, and gear. Pump was working until recently and requires rebuilding as it began to leak. Belt replaced with one which bypasses pump pulley. Steering gear provided assistance but tended also to leak, so it too requires rebuilding.

Odometer reads 53k miles, which cannot be verified as original. Factory catalytic converter dropped off when flat-bedded after purchase. Jump seats are in fantastic shape (no witness marks of them having been used in the factory floor mat). The headliner is also in great shape, and appears to be original. Original hubcaps are included (not shown on front). Tires have very low miles but dry-rotted as the vehicle has sat unused for a long time (no visable date codes on tires)

Work performed to date: rebuilt stock AISIN carburetor, replaced front calipers and pads/turned front rotors, rebuilt stock AISIN master cylinder, replaced exhaust including catalytic converter and factory tailpipe/muffler, replaced all four shocks. Water pump and fan clutch were also recently replaced - she runs COOL. Entire body was sanded to remove surface rust which had formed on exposed metal. Self-etching epoxy primer was sprayed to protect bodywork.

Front and amby doors are solid!!! I left all but one with surface rust on the bottom edges but tool a whire wheel to teh drivers to see that it was good. I was very pleased with what I saw.

There is quite a bit of floor patching which was done by the original owner. This was primaily riveted and then fibeglassed over. Not as I would've done, but functional. Some filler in the rear quarters and the sill is shot. This would make a great restoration project. Vehicle runs and can be driven.

Spare tire changer included (not currently fitted). Price is FIRM at $4500. If it doesn't sell for that I am restoring it myself.

Interested in trades??? I have a '93 80 and I'd love to have another 40. Just checking.

mcfj40, Cruiser is now sold and heading to KY.

Another 80 would be interesting...but I think I'd be a bachelor again.
