Fj45

Hi, What info are you looking for?. West Aussie has a copple of the same model. I have the workshop manul and parts catlog for them. I had a look at the pickies and it looks good.

Hi.
I just want to find out who brought the truck into the country. i've tried to find out for a while now but nobody seems to know that it even existed. I've spoken to guys from thiess and they didn't know of any that they brought in as column shifts and the same for the snowy mountains project ,they had 3 speeds but all were floor shift without the vacum transfer.i would also like to know if the internals of a 3 speed column gear box are the same as the 3 speed floor shift. The truck originally came from south aus the vin is 2-fj45-11427.
thanks

the trans are the same, you just change the top plate of the transmision, the internals are the same.
sounds like you might have a "P" model, swb, pics would definately help, side pics and or a wheelbase measurement.

HI. The wheel base is approx 2680mm I 've posted photos of iton this site under the heading (need info on a 1962 fj 45 lwb)and i've got a floor shift gearbox and a the original column and the column shift has the linkage arms coming out the side of the box not out the top as in the floor shift version.

You are correct the early three speed isn't the same as the mid 63 and later three speed. Those you could just switch the top cover to go between column and floor shift. Funny I remember seeing a RHD early three speed being sold on Ebay a few years back. It was being sold by TLC here in Southern California who makes the Icon. I thought about buying it but shipping it won't have been worth it. The inside should be the same for the floor and column shift it just not going to be easy to find parts forearly three speed. I have collect a few early three speed speed over the years. All LHD column shift. Would like to find the floor shifter if you know of any. In the US the column shift was standard and the floor shift a option. The floor shifter will be the same for both RHD and LHD vehicles. I also have the FSM for both 62 and 63. All models are covered if you have any questions.

I have not heard of any LWB models being produced in 1962, all of the 1962 FJ45 pick ups I have seen have been fixed cab SWB models.

g'day there that is a nice straight old tojo.
i have the skeleton of a similar one a couple dozen separated from yours by the chassis number.
your tojo would have been imported by thiess then on sold by one of their varied distributors.
the early history of toyota in aust. is documented in a 1999 book by Pedr Davis "the long run - toyota the first 40 years in australia" ISBN 0 947079 998.
it is a nice quality reference if you get the chance to buy it.
the thiess history thread in the 25 forum will be a great help for you; earlier this year i posted some select quotes from above reference in this thread.
my 62 has the axle assemblys removed so tricky to compare accurate wheelbase lengths
my 62 has had a chassis extension of aprox 100mm added behind the cab. apparently this was done from new in the dealership. im not sure why. all 7 examples of the 62-64 fj45 chassis type i have seen in west aust has the same modification. i started a thread with pics about this somewhere.
you seem to have the gearbox questions covered.
those old double sided lenses are the same as my fragmented ones but they seem unknown in the usa; ours have the 3 screws holding them in and the usa ones the whole lense screws in. paint or not be sure to keep your originals they are a rare item. good info and pics in the double sided directionals thread in 25 forum. my 63 has single sided indicators.
i believe tojos of this vintage had 15 inch non split rims that have mostly been swapped out later for splits.

anyway drop me another pm. i did try to reply your last msg but my net connection and skills not the best. and i offline at length sometimes. including my imminent holidays for couple weeks.

hope this makes sense and of some use. we can compare notes further. apologies i dont know how to provide links to the threads mentioned above.

The Crawford family of CMI Toyota brought in a number of Land Cruisers at around the same time as Theiss was doing it (in fact, they worked together at times, from what I understand). If this rig is from SA, then chances are it came in through them.

Paul Crawford has a museum of various vehicles (Cruisers, cars and lories) which CMI have sold through the years. He often has a nice display in the Bay to Birdwood classic car ralley. I have never seen one like yours though.

Cheers,

Josh

Hi.
Thanks for all the replies.Things have been flat out haven't had time to post anything back.Living in The Past I have a 3 speed floor shift in the shed. And thanks HJ75 about the Crawrord family info I'll have to look into it.I've started to pull it apart to restore it just would like some advice.Should I get the body and chassy soda or bead blasted and full respray new bushes bearings so on.Or should I sand it back where there is rust (only a few tiny spots)and not go through original red lead undercoat. And same with the chassy should I just clean it get rid of what little rust there is with minimal sanding. Bascally is it better for the truck to be restoed or ratted. thanks
