Hi i'm new to this forum looking for some help or suggestions. I recently purchased a ms 260 that has a broke piston and stuck rings i mainly bought for parts for my 026. my question is when i tore it apart the cylinder wall is not that bad can it be honed? is it worth fixing? I see alot of piston & ring kits online to buy w/ or w/out cylinders. Can i put a bigger piston & cylinder on it if so how big do you recommend. last thing this saw was at a dealer before i bought it and they told the previos owner it would cost almost as much as buying a new saw so that is what he did and i bought this one. thanks for the help.

sorry it took so long to respond. the cylinder is scored on both sides more on exhaust side. the scratches are low on intake side . thanks

Sounds like someone ran it with straight fuel.

If the cylinder is gouged it is junk. If it a build up of aluminum from the piston you can use muratic acid and eat the aluminum off the cylinder. You can then use emery cloth but it is better to use a bottle hone or commonly called a barrel hone.

what do you think of up sizing a new cylinder and piston ? is that possible? if so what size will work best for this saw?
