I have a Stihl MS 170 chainsaw that does not deliver any oil to the chain bar. Removing the bar and chain and running the engine at full speed only a small drip of chain oil comes from the pump to the area in the housing where the bar is mounted. I have flushed the chain oil tank with varsol to clean out both the tank and oil filter inside. I have checked the duct bill valve in the top of the oil tank to insure it is free. I have disconnected the hose from the inlet to the oil pump and with the cap removed from the chain oil tank there is free flow of varsol from the tank through the hose. I have removed the drive sprocket and inboard clutch to check both the oil pump drive gear and driven sprocket of the oil pump. The sprocket of the oil pump turns freely. The oil pump drive gear appears to be in good condition. The wire clip is not broken or worn. The driving threads on the polymer gear are worn or there any flat spot. I have run the saw at full speed both with the cap on and off the chain oil tank in case the duct bill valve is faulty. In either case no oil is supplied to the chain bar. Is there any way to test or check the chain oiler pump itself? Are special tools required to remove and replace the pump?
