In the process of the overhaul of my West German 028WB, I have gone through some of the components and need a little direction to assist in the wrap up of this project...my dad is requesting my services in the woods soon.

A little back ground on why I am doing some overhaul to the saw. I had the saw in its case on my garage floor at my old apartment building. The garage flooded and the high water came up to the lower portion of the saw (bottom ~1-inch). The pull start spring busted and I have since replaced it. From the water mark on the saw, it seems the lower half of the ignition coil was sitting in water, so I am unsure if it is fouled. My initial question is, can it be tested? It does not look to be serviceable, only replaceable?

The saw ran great prior to this flooding, which leads me to believe it has something to do with the ignition coil as I am not getting any spark (new plug installed). I should also note that I cleaned up the surfaces of the flywheel and contacts on the ignition coil with no change. The saw has great compression and everything else looks to be in running order.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would most grateful.

Thanks Dan.

Yes, it is the 028WB with the magnesium fuel tank. I will be checking those out tonight. Will a small application of dielectric grease do anything to help mitigate future corrosion?

I will post back.

The contacts on the breaker points glaze over. Grease will not help.

You can probaly remove the flywheel and use a emery board for points and clean them up. Do not remove them or loosen them. You will have a bugger of a time getting them reset and timed without the right tools.

Thanks again Dan.

Just so I understand correctly, the breaker points are the two points on either side of the coil?

Also, could you break down which tools I need to make this fix correctly? I do have the main factory manual if that is any help to me and a currently digging it out.

The points and condensor are under the flywheel.

1110 890 4500 is the part number for the flywheel puller.

The nut on the flywheel is 13mm.

The 028WB came with slot head screws as well as the T-27 head screws holding the starter assy on. I would be guessing if I told your which one to use.Although you already replaced the starter cord so you have the tools for that.

Found the manual and with your assistance have been set straight.

Thank you!

After further inspection and testing, it seems the points are shot. Replacements are on the way. Until then, its time to tear the saw down and go through everything.

Replacement parts arrived...we have spark and ignition! Once a few other new pieces arrive later this week, I should have the saw cutting in no time.

Dan, thanks again for the assistance.
