Oof. That sucks. Glad you were using it as intended though. You never know what lurks under those puddles!

Unfortunate! I did an amp replacement recently let me know if you have any q on that.

I suspect most of the sensor issues can be resolved with your approach

Sorry to hear, looks like a great time until heading into the pond. This is the worst nightmare of mine. Glad to hear you didn’t hydrolock the motor, how deep was the water on the passenger intake side?
Curious about the insurance aspect of It. Were they willing to cover the damages even though you were off roading ?

Personally I'm happy to see an almost perfectly fine cruiser NOT go to the scrap yard. You deserve some credit for trying to sort this out.

I would be pulling all the carpet, finding a way to mask the dash and other stuff from overspray, pressure washing or hosing down the rockers and harnesses covered in mud, then vacuum out. Water is great to carry along dirt with it. The harness itself shouldn't get hurt by some short-term water if it is given time to dry before electricity is applied again.

modules would get pulled and opened to see if anything can be done.

I like your approach. Disconnect power, remove interior, clean with clear water, dry everything, replace damaged unsalvagable modules. Deoxit is great for cleaning electrical connections. Dielectric grease can help prevent future issues.

You are a braver man than I. I think I'd rather have insurance replace the vehicle.

An LC wouldn't go to a junkyard to die but would be sold at a salvage auction and likely exported.

So if you decide to sell a few years down the road is this something that you tell the prospective buyer ?

much respect to you OP for trying to salvage this!!!! Hope you get it back together. Although, no one would blame you if you decided to take the insurance route. That's a lot of work and the potential for complications down the road. All the best!!!

Hi Carlson,

So very sorry to see and read about your situation...

If it is not too forward, would you mind sharing some of the fact points of your current choices:

What year is your cruiser?

How many miles on your cruiser?

What is your insurance company offering you?
( If you don't want to answer, OK , but could you buy a comparable substitute Land Cruiser with their offer, +/- a couple thousand $$$ ???)

You said a dealer gave you a $28K repair estimate, but with no documentation. How did they present the estimate to an insurance company without specifics?

With a little more information, the many experts on this site may be able to guide you to a better ending for a "long happy life" with a "dry clean" Land Cruiser.

BTW, I am not a Land Cruiser expert...

Hope this may help...
