I have a 2" lift and 35" Yoko M/T on my FZJ71 and it keep hitting the fenders. still running the stock shocks though!!

what you recommend a good stiff shocks for me? pls. help. should be economic too.
Tough Dog looks to be a good option but expensive too.

Depends on your rims offset ,
But I run the 16x8" factory 105 series steel rims with 315s and mine dont hit the guards I have 2" springs and 1" coil spacer up front and the rear leafs have snake racing extended rear shackles

might be correct, I run 16x10" aftermarket Rims and 35" tires and it rubs from the side only.

I also have the same lift you have front springs and rear snake racing shakels.
What shocks you have on? what tipe you recommend? Bilstain? Fox? Tough Dog?

A mate with a 79 series runs 16x10" rims and has problems with the tyres rubbing on the guards and lower guard near were the mud flap would go.
He has a dobs 2" lift

I run toughdog adjustables and there great
But shocks won't fix a tyre rubbing problem

I just added a leaf at the Rear and changed to stiff springs.

what else to do to solve the issue without the need to reduce tire size or to add a body lift?

Any Feedback guys!! what shocks you recommend to minimize rubbing tires?

SHOCKS won't stop rubbing , maybe a bigger lift kit

Change your tire size and rims try 16"*8" and a different offset. (try different offset first) . 8" may not look as macho but it beats the tire rubbing and blowing out :)

Also cut the guards - usually at the front guard where the mudflap is attached needs to be cut back 25mm and then rewelded. No one will even notice the cutting and welding of done nicely.

.

Are you running wheel spacers?

Changing rims could be a solution, but might not like it as it wont look good!

I already had the front guard cut where the mudflap attached, thus its not rubbing there but on the top edge.

Shocks will have no effect at all if they are the correct length. Cut your guards, lower bump stops or body lift. Or change the wheels and tyres.

How to lower bump stops??, this might solve the issue!! any one done it or you mean just replacing them? would you recommend a specific size if lift is 2.5"?

Are you running wheel spacers?

Yep I do - front and rear...!! do you mean the same logic of 10" rims offset?

Its a simple matter of the tyre being to big for the space its fitted into. You either go smaller with the tyre,or bigger with the lift or start chopping metal out.
Personally I would consider the 1st 2 options.

Putting bigger bump stops on ,or lowering them simply restricts articulation.
I guess it all depends whether its built for show or go?

its defenitly for go, we do huge dunes and long travel as well.

also, what you have said seems right too.
as my shocks are due for change now, this will bring me back to the point zero, and need to decide on best shocks to fit in my LC70, so far, its either Tough Dog or King Shocks.

once I have the new shocks on, I'll take a test drive and see, then, I'll make my decision on above suggestions by you and other members here, smaller tires, higher lift or new bumps as I'm done with trimming!

thanks

I just went back and had a look at your tyres, and I think a finer tread on a slightly narrower tyre would give you the traction in the sand.
I do mainly sand driving also and I use Bridgstone 235x85x16 D694 and when I let them down to about 18psi I can chug up almost any sand dune from a standing start.

I'm really happy with the tires I have now, just the shocks need to change.

here an idea of what we do on a normal trip

I think you missed what Clint79 said in post 4. The stiffer shocks wont help, they may slow the compression of the springs, but they will not stop tyre rub.

Hey there Zakaraya, what did you do in the end re shocks, trimming etc?

I've just got myself into a 71 also, considering similar issues
