Hi Guys, hope all is well.
I have been having some trouble on my 1994 1FZ-F 80 series. at first i thought the accelerator cable was getting stuck, as the RPM could get stuck up at 2000, and when i pull the throttle pedal back a bit it would fall back down, sometimes i would press the clutch and the RPM would climb instantly. Now that i have checked the cable seems fine and i adjusted the tightness and all, however i believe that the lever, where the cable is sitting on the carbi s the one that gets stuck, as now when i pull back the pedal nothing changes. Now i need to push it back manually and the RPM drops instantly. I have attached below the lever where the accelerator cable is sitting, thats the one i push back down to let it release.
has anyone experienced anything like this? what would be the solution for this?

Hey @troopysahara,
How many Km's has this cable been on your carb & how many Km's on your carb ?
It could be that the spring has fatigued & lost it's springability.

Did you try to take the cable out and pour some solvent inside the cable housing to flush any dust, grime or perhaps previous lubricants (WD40) ? Sometimes build up dust might cause internal friction and cause the cable to stick, thus unwanted higher RPM's.

I've had the same problem a few years back, I mananged to sort it out by heavily spraying this spring area with carb cleaner & them spraying it with silicone spray, it worked for almost a year then came back again.
Finally got a new cable as a new one was due and problem sorted.

Another issue I beleive might perhaps cause this issue is that the cable housing moves (back & forth) with the inner steel cable when you accelerate.

There is also a return spring on your accelerator, check it and check the accelrator pedal linkage, maybe some lubricant is needed there.

There are 4 points that secure the cable along it's route from that spring to the accelerator pedal.
First one is a notch on rubber flexible hose attached to the air filter housing on one end and the intake air connector to the carb on the other end (not sure if the troppy has the same setup as the 80 series).

Then there are 3 clamps for the cable after, one on the No.1 Engine hanger

One before the master brake cylinder

and one infront of the brake booster

Make sure the cable fits snug on them and not too lose that it moves back & forth.
Hope that helps.......
