Well, I tackled the rear axle service this past weekend, and PS went perfectly. When I got to the DS, the parking brake was stuck, and I had a heck of a time prying, pleading, and anything else I could think of to get the rotor off.

In the process, a few springs from the parking brake assembly popped off, etc. I finally got it back together (using the PS assembly as a mirror model).

Problem is, now the DS parking brake seems stuck (again)...rear DS wheel gets REALLY hot after driving.

I've searched the forum and can't seem to find anything on remedying a stuck parking brake--any thoughts?

ps--please don't tell me I have to go through the ugly prying, pleading, crying ritual to get the rotor off again.

(I'm an FZJ noob and I admit it. But I've already tackled PHH, fuel filter, and birf job in the past couple months!)

I'm pretty sure something similar has been covered already.

Try a search -- use the advanced search feature. enter "ebrake" as your keyword and limit the search to the 80 series tech forum.

Where do you live? In some areas, the parking brake can get stuck/siezed due to rust.

I had noticed before I pulled the rear axles/rotors that when I engaged the ebrake when the vehicle was in motion, it would squeal like crazy (as if it the shoes had worn down to metal). However, once I got inside it, there was plenty of shoe material, and no scoring on the rotor's 'drum' surface. So I'm still not sure what was causing the squealing.

OK, I'm still not sure which is the bellcrank (don't have the FSM in front of me right now--is the term "bellcrank" used in the FSM?)

But, the rubber stopper thingy (that's my technical term) rests on the wheel side when parking brake handle is disengaged, and when engaged, pulls away (toward centerline of truck). I believe this means the bellcrank is NOT seized--am I missing it?
