Hello,

New to the forum and to the Landcruiser but not to Toyotas. I just picked up a nice 2001 Series 100 locally. I really love this truck. It is mostly stock and just waiting for all the mods.

I also have 2000 4Runner as pictured.

I noticed that the stereo for the LC has too much bass response. I know this is a common issue. My question is: will a stock CD/tape deck from my 2000 4Runner (I have an extra unit) fit in the same spot in my LC? Dimensionally, they appear the same size. The JBL system in the LC has the 6-cd changer. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

Welcome to MUD.

Honestly you'd be swapping junk for more junk. Install a double DIN Pioneer or Kenwood for a couple hundred bucks and make the stereo actually sound better.

To answer your question directly it's likely a wiring difference but double DIN is dbl DIN so the size would work.

RR, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I completely agree that I would be swapping junk for junk but since I had an extra, I thought it might be a temporary fix.

Yes it will fit- your head unit has little ears that you unscrew, then screw onto your other head unit. The ears attach to the vehicle. You may need a harness adapter though.. I've got stock 4Runner, Taco, 80, and 100 radios and the plugs on the backs of them are more different than they are the same. You can usually get the adapter at WalMart though.. or Car Toys if you can't figure it out there.

Will swapping the LC head unit cure the bass issue? I want to go on a long road trip to CA but I don't think I could stand the stereo the way it sounds right now.

I'm surprised you have a bass issue. The subs in these things are pretty bad.

You should be able to adjust the tone controls to your liking. If you buy a decent head unit you can bypass the factory amp as well and power the door speakers for better fidelity.
