Does anybody know where I might find a step by step process for painting a vehicle. I've painted before but it's nice to have something to refer to.

If you want something in print, I'm sure Eastwood has something like that.

google auto painting

I have painted several vehicles and the paintification video is pretty good, it's done buy the young version of the guy on trucks tv. If you don't want to buy it you can rent it on Smartflix, good body work cd's as well. Larry

single stage is cheaper and easier for someone who has minimal paint experience

It is cheaper and quicker but no easier, but it will work fine for a trail truck. Very good prep and good sealer under it and it will last a long tom, it is a little vulnerable to trail damage. Cheers, Larry

Im not really a paint guy so my opinion maybe incorrect. But single stage paint is the old lead paint that requires no primer and no clear coat. You simnply prep, paint and wet sand. I was planning it for my continental, but single stage paint is no longer available/legal here in california. Please chime in if Im wrong.

Single stage automotive paint is available in California. It is true that many of the high VOC formulas are no longer available or hard to find. This depends on your location in California. Newer single stage paints are available that meet the new regulations such as 2k urathene. You can still get enamal and even laquer. Not all paint codes are availalbe in single stage or all formulas so it depends on what you are looking for. The no primer comment is interesting. If over coating an old finish then then this may or may not work. Not all paints are compatable so you may have to test your existing finsh to make sure it will not lift or wrinkle if you don't use a sealer prior to laying down the new color over an old finish.
