Hi guys I am a noob here, and unfortunately come here with my tail between my legs. I had planned for a long time a lift after buying 2x air lockers with 4.88 gears and a set of 10x15 with 35x12.5 M/T claws on them.

I have a 1986 FJ73 MWB and decided that it's years of loyal service are only limited to how much I put in it.
Basically I opted to stay spring under after looking at how involved a SOA was and not guaranteed decent on road results.

I purchased 4 OME leaf packs which I ripped 1 spring out the rear and 2 out the front. I got extended shackles and did a shackle reversal with the fronts built up 50mm approx. to correct castor, spring perches are about 5-7Deg + castor where they bolt to the spring. I rebuilt the diffs and did all the seals and bearings.

I have gone a little bit higher in the front than the rear, but I will address that later.

Basically I have gone up maybe 7-8inches, and have factory steering in it so the steering box link is in at a decent angle.

I took it for a drive with no shocks installed yet in it and had a horrible vibration that shook felt extremely dangerous. It appears the steering has very harsh wobble in it, and I thought it was a combination of harmonics in the undampened springs and the bump steer I created? I do have a RTC steering dampener witted

I have fitted rancho xl9000's and wound them to tight and it feels better but it's by no means fixed.

My 1st question: are 15x10's too big for the truck, the dish is really deep, unknown offset?

My 2nd question do I need to do something to level my steering, if so what is my best option?

Otherwise I am quite happy with the lift and the feel, but if anyone has ever had this happen to them, it's a pretty big downfall. I have 14" travel at each front and 10" in the rear, but would have more if the wheels weren’t hitting the frame.

Many thanks guys love them cruisers!

The wheels wouldn't be the problem unless theyre not balanced properly
I've got 15x10 -44 offset and I have no problems with the steering

I just put some 15x10 with 35's on my 88 BJ70 and experienced a crazy tracking/wobble issue! It randomly darted to the left and right and wasn't practical to drive at all! They were off an FJ40 and have a massive dish/negative offset. A mechanic mate said its definitely the offset of the rims thats causing the issue. Trying to attach pic but won't let me?!

Thanks guys doesn't feel like unbalanced wheels as it doesn't happen all the time I hit a certain speed range.

I am actually thinking I will check all the torque on my bearings because it feels like the RHS is starting the shaking. I possibly haven't seated a bearing properly. Time for another tear down:doh:

the other thing I was thinking of doing was a high steer, anyone out there done on on a SUA?

When you do so, check your knuckle bearings...they ware in the straigt posistion and can create the same problems.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD... fun starts where the road ends

I was told by my mechanic not to go much bigger than 33" tires for daily driving because it will track where the tyres want to go because the sidewall of the tyre so big and flexes around a lot

Go and borrow a good set of ballanced tyres off your mate that you know drive straight without and death shakes or wobbles and throw them on your truck and that'll tell you if its a tyre ballance problem or your steering geometry
