Hi all,
I live in Mongolia and recently took delivery of my 2009 US spec Land Cruiser 200. The car is a 2009 model with 30k miles on the clock.
On driving the car I could immediately feel that there was some movement in the steering assembly. Over rough ground you can hear a very faint but worrying metal on metal clunk, more so you can actually feel it.
Having driven the car (on very poor roads) for 200 miles the noise and the frequency are increasing.
On closer inspection earlier today I noticed that the rubber seal, where the steering shaft exits the fire wall (in the engine bay) the rubber was split and grease/oil had leaked down the shaft.
Could it be as simple as replacing the rubber boot/seal or will the split have allowed the ingress of dust and this is what has caused the play in the steering?
Has anyone else experienced something similar, both in terms of noise, but also in terms of having the rubber bushing split?
Any help is appreciated.
