Get the bigger ones. Or carry spares...actualy, carry spares on hard trails if you have either kind.

I retorque before and usually after every trip and usually one or two have worked a little loose. Actually the only stud I've broken was when I was torquing them the night before a run. WAY easier to replace in the garage than on the trail btw:p

ps I use the minitruck ones:cheers:. have been considering the 5th stud just to help out a bit...but haven't gotten around to it.

Oh, yah, your original Q. If the bolt patterns are the same between the two knuckles then I wouldn't see why you couldn't use them.

The steering arm bolts came loose and stripped two of the threads out of the top of the steering knuckle. I have a high steer kit from 4x4 labs with the small bolt pattern. Other than the bolt pattern is there any difference in the knuckles? I have some extra knuckles that have coarse spline axles. Can I install the knuckle from a coarse spline axle onto my 40 with fine spline axles?

Any ideas how to keep the knuckles tight? I hate to junk the whole high steer kit. Thanks for your help.

While it is not clearly stated that this user has a small pattern knuckle with disc brakes, being that he states that he is running fine spline axles could be an indicator of the user having Toyota disc brake components on their existing front axle.

If that is the case, you cannot use a drum brake/coarse spline axle components; the spindle is not large enough to work with the larger fine spline axle shaft, and the drum brake steering knuckle does not have provisions for mounting a brake caliper.
