Hello fellow Land Cruiser owners! I bought a one owner, older woman driven, completely stock 2004 model August of 2012 with 88,000 miles on it. As I started driving it, I noticed the steering to be rather less than appealing. It constantly wants to seek the high spots in the road, and basically just about any contour change on the pavement. (Ruts in the pavement are the worst) and low speeds are worse than higher speeds. There is NO play in the steering and I have tried different tire pressures on my Michelin Latitude Tour HP 275 60R 18. As well as a front end alignment(Which really wasn't needed) and frequent tire rotations. As of today (February 15,2014) the Cruiser now has 118,000 miles on it and still drives the same as it did with 88,000 miles.
I did a service history check at my local Toyota dealer and noticed the previous owner brought it in with 74,500 miles on it for a "Drivability" problem, "vehicle very loose, doesn't drive the way it use to". Toyota recommended to replace front wheel bearings and lower ball joints. Bearings were replaced and the new Michelin's were installed, but ball joints were DECLINED.
I had the ball joints checked during the front end alignment (Not at Toyota), mechanic said they were fine and didn't need replacing. So having said all that.....anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!
