Hey Guys I Need Some Info On Steering ....i'm Gonna Be Running 34" Tires On My 1985 Mini Truck And I Thought There Was Something I Can/have To Do To My Trucks Steering To Be Able To Turn Those Tires , Like Use A Fj Steering Pump Or Something Like That ???? Thanks For Any Help .

Your PS pump is not the problem, it's the factory push-pull steering geometry that needs to be upgraded/fixed. You need to swap to a steering box from an IFS truck, then go to cross-over steering, with new tie rod and draglink.

I second what KLF said you will need to address the stock steering. After that you can drill and shim you're stock pump but I would suggest not doing that until you change the steering because the stock stuff is so under engineered that the extra umph from the pump would only make it more dangerous.

The stock steering isn't sufficient for 34" x 9.5" or 10.5" tires?

I think it'll be borderline. I say run it first and see if there's a problem. If there is, then looking into crossover steering.

Have you installed any lift yet? It's hard to keep the crappy stock setup once you install any lift, as the stupid draglink hits the U-bolts on the driver's side. Then you have to buy a drop draglink, which is a waste of money. Eventually you'll bend and then snap the "banana" arm on the driver's side.

Just fix it right the first time. I run 35x12.50 MT's and it's not a problem with the stock PS pump.

well i just got my 3" lift kit this week and ive got new hd shackles front and rear so i should start looking for a ifs box and crossover steering stuff now eh ??!!

Yep, listen to Ken, heed his advice and you can't go wrong.

Get ahold of Mike Fox, he's got a few IFS steering boxes lying around, he's near New Haven (Marlborough, actually).

Call Bud at www.budbuilt.com for a tie rod and draglink. He can tell you the best place to get hi-steer arms. Might as well get a U-bolt flip kit too.

Heres a link or 2 that will help improve your stock stearing.

I had to boost the PSI/gmp in the pump, I had to do it when I did my ram.
That being said,
I have run 34's on stock 85 steering no problem. BUT when you start putting lockers, hard wheeling etc on that stuf it realy binds the Jarm bad. I have a droped drag link thats in like new shape if your interested. I also have a couple Jarms (for spares) I think somewhere... in this mess...
