Would it be hard to put a Chevy steering box in place of my stock 60 series box, since I already have a 350?

I don't think having the 350 in there would make it any easier or harder...why do you want to?

I am pretty sure mine is shot, or well on its way, and a new saginaw steering box is a lot cheaper than a new Toyota box.

try www.cruiserparts.net or www.marksoffroad.net for a rebuilt P/S gear box.

cruiserparts = $500.00 and no core charge
mark's offroad = $375.00 for rebuild of your core

I've got about 1000K on a cruiserparts rebuilt box to date, and it drives like new! :D Same warranty as the new OEM part too. Plus, I still have the original should I need a backup to rebuild in the future.

Check it out,

and now my steering pump/box is making some bad noises... i think its on its way out.
im going to drain it and put some new PS fluid in and see if it helps to buy me some time.

Draining it is easy Lowtide (and welcome back!) - it takes a while, but it's the best way - pull the belt off the pulley, then pull the return hose to the pump off and stick it into a bucket - turn the pulley by hand and it'll start pumping fluid out.

Be sure, when you refill, to use Dextron II or III ATF, not power steering fluid.

Cruiserparts uses Jergson(sp) to rebuild his boxs, they do good work I hear.

I used a place in Seattle to do my fj40 box, $200 to rebuild my box, I suplied the OEM kits($60-70 for a 40) had it done in one day and back to me the next, Redhead Gear in Seattle.

I am sure Marks are top notch rebuilds as well, he might even do them himself, dude is a perfectionest.....so it wouldnt suprise me :)
