Steering arm disc brake conversion question.

I did the mini truck disc brake conversion on my 71 fj40. So I could use the stock tie rod ends instead of the mini truck, I read you could use 1981 landcruiser steering arms. They bolt right onto the mini truck knuckles. I have the conversion almost done.

The problem I ran into is I purchased a new set of tie rod ends and the tie rod studs for the steering arms are too narrow. I am wondering if the steering arms are for something else because of the larger stud holes. They are tapered and they dont appear to be drilled. Please respond with some advice and knowledge.

Oh yeah, I purchased another of tie rod ends thinking I had defective ones and they are the same.

79 and later arms have the large knuckle pattern and the small tie rod bore.. If you have 40 series tie rod ends and the tapers are too small for the steering arms, you dont have 79 or later steering arms on there.. Either get some, or use some bushes MAF Tie Rod End Bushing

Sounds like you got a set of 60 arms.

Do the FJ60's have a larger tie rod end? I thought they were the same.

VK7ybi thanks for the info...I didnt think the earlier steering arms would bolt onto the mini knuckles could they?

The 60 has a larger taper .. The 60 stud pattern is the same as the mini.. The early 40 arms dont fit, as the studs and spacing are smaller than late 40, mini and 60 parts, as youll see in the FAQ.. The taper remained the same in the late 40.. 60 and mini tapers are the same.
