I'm considering aquiring a set of Toyota steel wheels for mounting a set of BFG 285 ATs - the Mchln LTXs on the truck are too good to scrap and the majority of miles are on-road anyway. This would give me a change option for fishing trips and such w/o ponying up for a second set of alloys. Checked the photo gallery - but does anyone have a pic to post for me of a steel wheel version of an 80 just to get a feel for this look?

Here's a stocker:

the stock steelies look great and are 16x8 which fits 285s well. there are 16x8 options from steel wheel makers but you will not find much used out there and you will probably have to special order especially to get the right offset. the toyotas are slightly spendy but very nice quality and not too bad a price from dan compared to other 16x8 options (especially if you skip those nifty centre caps). you can get 16x7s a lot cheaper either by geting tundra stock steel castoffs on ebay or hunting for wagon wheels. They will work for 285s but are too narrow according to manufacturer's specifications. you will get some crowning as a result (the middle of the tire will be higher than the sides and this will cause uneven wear and loss of grip) some members use 16x7s and scoff that they are too narrow but there is no question that there is some price to pay.

Here's what they look like powdercoated black (compulsory:flipoff2:) and fitted with 285 MT/Rs.

Thanks guys - I'd thought that they would be just solid, typical truck wheels. Appreciate the help.

Here are some aftermarket 16x8's with .25" less backspacing than the factory steelies. US Wheel Modular 94's, $70 a piece from summitracing.com.

Edit: Resized pic
