Hi guys,

I own an Australian RJ70 bundera with the petrol 22r and im having starting problems.

Whats happening is i turn the key all guages work, turn the key to start and it dies as if there is no battery charge at all.

Then go to re-start and when i turn the key there is nothing at all.

It has a brand new battery, and that battery had enough charge.

Any ideas? im thinking its the starter motor, but wondering if it might be the rotor button or maybe a short or maybe even the alternator????

Anyone come across this problem and found a solution??

Thanks everyone

Checked the battery terminals first and they are good to go. Might be the chassis earth, something i havent checked yet!

Is it turning over?

If its not turning over, what you can try is get someone to hold the key in the start position (like you're trying to start it) and then get under the hood and tap on the starter motor with a small hammer or a shifter if you wish, don't need to belt it hard just a few nice taps. If you tap it and all of a sudden it turns over and fires up, get your starter motor checked out.
This has always worked for me but that doesn't mean it will work for you.

When i go to start it, thats when it dies. before it has the chance to start. i guess its almost as if it shorts out just before it goes to start.

after i jump start it, drives around no worries. once i turn it off and go to start it again, ame thing happenes all the guages work turn to start, dies. then try to start again however no gauge movement at all and no start.

also i have noticed when i have an indicator on the vault guage moves up and down a bit!!!

Test the starting systom.

Going to the starter is a small wire [4mm] black /white unplug it

Try to start it now if gauges still work fine and start relay clicks i thnnk it is the startor.

Another ckeck. Turn key off in nuterl and put 12v + to where the small wire goes in to the startor. it should turn the engine over.
