nice - though I'm not sure what Jenn did to the camera to make me look that, humm.... robust....

Ya' know, Craig (and please correct me if I'm getting names wrong) did just fine down that tree root. In the vid it looks like he knew what he was doing and just creeped it nice and easy. It's also obvious just how much narrower he is than my tank.

Also obvious is how hard it is to climb with loose rocks -

I was already gone before you took the strap - what was the prognosis?

It was fun

Thanks for the props. That little truck did really well for being absolutely stock. The tires were not great and I ran them at about 20 psi. I don't mind the hill, I just did not want to tear it up with no bumpers, sliders or skid plates. Will had a good time. It is tough when you are 8. He is too big to just sit there and too little to get to do anything really cool. Special thanks to the "big Osage kids" who played with him.

I need to teach Elliot how to use a radio. I have 6 FRS radios that would be good for the kids to goof with w/o clogging the CB channel.

Are you planning on doing the fall crawl or whatever the event is going to be called? Rob asked if I would do the sippie cup challenge like I did for GATOR, and I intend to do it - have my TAC application all filled out, just need to send it in. GATOR was my first shot at trying anything like that, and I think I got lucky with the lug nut hunt appealing to a relatively wide range of ages. My eperience ends at age 3 years 11 months and 17 days. Once they get older than that, I got no eperience. Though I got no negative feedback from anyone on it, my natural desire is to make it better next time. I'll make a point of picking Will's mind on what he'd like to see, so I can get than 8 year old perspective :)

Sounds Good

Will would love to give his input. My wife, Mandy, is a 4th grade teacher and if we can get her to show up, she might have a few good ideas. I missed the "radio thing" but he seemed to be ok with it. He was a little upset. When you are sitting there with nothing to do it can get a little rough. I was thinking that we could have some "kid crawls" where the little ones can pretend to be trucks and crawl up hills on their hands and knees.

Total damage from the trip so far is as follows. Some items were just amplified by the trip. :hillbilly:

1) Blown out Radiator - bought a new one
2) Blown out temperature control box - bought a new one
3) Main seal leaking very badly - replacing it
4) Distributor cap cracked to :censor: along with piss poor rotor - rebuilt distributor

Total parts only - $486.34

After I came home and told the :princess: how much everything costs her only reply was, and I qoute. "look on the bright side dear, at least you know those things are fixed, and you don't have to worry about them. I'm sure you will be happy when you get your locker things on so we can go out again" :steer:

I think I am just going to have to keep her around a little longer.

Jeremy

that's actually not a horrid parts total - I think I dumped that much just to get my CEL off from the EGR system.

That's a good woman you got right there. Don't forget, whey you put those "locker things" in it's the perfect time to regear for 37's ;)

OK Heath, I now have my Lockers here, along with all my other toys, thanks to FlatlandTRD for taking the time out of his schedule to bring my parts all the way down from KC, and then wouldnt even let me buy him a drink at the convience store. (thank you again very much). :bounce:

So Heath or anyone else that has the knowledge or experience. Where do I get some 5:29's from????? Everyone says that even though I am going turbo in the next 6 months I should still regear. Also what is going to happen when I am running 37's, 5.29's, turbo'd and fully locked? Am I going to need anything else during this process, or should I be ok?

Jeremy

Longfield axles?

Cheapest place - and they are Sierra Gears

Complete Re-Gear Package [SG-REGEARKIT] - $649.00 : Iron Pig Off Road, Toyota 4WD experts

Zuk - who is widely reconized as the master gear guy - suggests Nitro gears and uses Just Differentials cause they have him on record and will ship straight to him.

Toyota Landcruiser 9-1/2 5.29 Ring & Pinion Nitro Gear [TLC-529-NG] - $209.99 : JTs Parts & Accessories, Justdifferentials.com

Crusier outfitters has a decient price and they are Sierra Gears

Cruiser Outfitters

And a pretty goo install price too.

You're looking at 185-250 per axle for install - that's if you bring the 3rds in. Not sure what a local place would charge if you just drove the vehicle in and dropped off the keys.

The lockers you got, are those just the lockers, or are they the complete 3rd member? If it's the complete 3rd, the easiest thing to do is just take those in, or ship them to Zuk, Iron Pig, or Crusier Outfitters, then just drop them in. I'll tackle just about any job on the 80, birfs, custom suspension, ect. but for some reason gear set-up scares the heck out of me. I guess it's partly all the horror stories, the cost if you screw up, and not knowing anyone to walk me threw it.

I asked in the 80 forum if there is a quality difference in gear sets, and there was no great concensous on brand X is bad and brand A is da' bomb. From what I can tell, most failures are from set-up, not from bad parts.

Check out one of the sponsors.. Landcruiser (9.5) : JTs Parts & Accessories, Justdifferentials.com

What is going to happen with a turbo, 5.29s and 37s? Temptation at a stoplight, big smiles, and turning the radio down to hear the turbo :D Glad I could help out.

(Great minds think alike? And Bruce is the local version of Zuk)
