Craig-

Are you a famous sports player???

If not, you are not allowed to talk in the third person.

That is what Kelly thinks about that!

Okay, so Craig's delicious dessert is out. How about this, everyone on their own for Fri. night. Either cook for yourself or we could all go out to eat in town. For the breakfasts we could have 1) pancakes, eggs and bacon, 2) biscuits and gravy and for dinner the chili? Either other people can bring stuff or I can do the shopping and then split the cost with everyone as we have done sometimes in the past. Anyone who wants to help cook is welcome, I'm not adverse to assistance as Mike was. Or maybe it's just that I don't want to do this by myself. Anyway, I can't believe I am offering, but you might as well take advantage while you can. BUT I MUST HAVE HELP!!!! And volunteers to help with the clean up. I already have offers from Rob and Marc. Only a week away so I need responses and a half way reliable count if I'm going to do this.

One who never learns, Peggy

Peggy, I will certainly be there and can and will help in anyway I can. I can bring 2-3 doz eggs from our chickens if that will help. We also have LOTS of pickles from last summer if that would go with anything. Eric B.

The eggs would be GREAT!!! Yum, fresh eggs. Probably should go ahead with 3 dz. just in case since we don't usually get an accurate count. Pickles would go with sandwiches at lunch.

Heath is planning on being there on Saturday only. Andrea said she and the kids are in as long as it's not snowing :). Weather forcast looks o.k. thus far, but it will likely change daily. I'm jones'n to test out the 37's.

Heath and Elliot will make some cowboy cookies to bring along. They're basically oatmeal cookies the size of your head, with nuts, and chocolate chips, though sometimes Heath gets creative and does nuts, rasins, and crasins too. Never know what will end up in them, but Heath's co-workers never complain.

Oh, and Heath started refuring to himself in the third person as soon as he got published in Trails. :)

Let Heath know if Heath needs to do anything else....

Heath, don't get too big a head. The article was great. Rob and I are planning on leaving around 11:00.

My wife makes sure I dont' get too big a head. Packman said they're doing a sippie cup challenge at Tall Corn Classic, so to me, that's missioned accomplished that someone's trying it elsewhere.

Jobe and I hope to be on the road by 10:00 - but you know how that goes.

Has anyone seen the forcast to this weekend?? Weather.com is showing a 70% chance for t-storms for Sat. and rain on Sunday. If they are letting water out of the dam can we still wheel?

Forcast for Tuttle looks a little better but not ideal.

Thoughts???????

Looks like the last gate change was this past weekend.

Grand Lake O' The Cherokees, Pensacola Dm

Can call the GRDA to find out what they are planning on doing

Current Lake Conditions

I doubt they'll have the upper flood gates open, they're only 1.5' high. And the in-flow you're seeing now is from all the snow over the weekend finally making it's way down the flood plane. A few showers on Saturday won't really effect the lake level for a few days. But, probably safest to give them a call tomorrow. I'm not very good at reading their charts.

If they are letting loose water - the rock garden and up is not covered - except when we flooded real bad 2 years ago, that was a lake level 6-9 ft above normal. There is also a back way into the area across the river - the wooded area. You go through town, take a right at the fire station, go past little blue state park campground, wander up a curvy road, and when you feel like you're beyond the top, and that you've surely gone too far, there is a little dirt road to the right. To the left of that road is a fence. Follow that road in and you drop in the back side.

more info.

RAY'S OFFROAD - Disney Offroad Park

And if you look at this map

http://www.extreme4wheelin.com/images/grand_map.jpg

Disney & Langley

you can see where you turn right past the 3rd damn, and follow that road down to the ledgend on the map, then turn right

Hope that helps....

I don't know where the orv park is, but I always thought it was near the overflow path.

In the history of Tuttle, they have only opened the overflow up once -- back in 93' when it took a nice little wooded area and turned it into what you know today.

Here is some details:
Abnormally heavy rainfall during the summer of 1993 in the drainage basin of Tuttle Creek reservoir in northeastern Kansas created a situation that required release of water via the flood gates of this reservoir. All eighteen flood gates were opened for seventeen days releasing up to 60,000 cubic feet of water per second during these seventeen days. The released water eroded a "canyon" downstream from the flood gates in the area shown in Figure 1.1A creating extensive lateral exposures of the rocks from the Burr Limestone Member (interval between numbers 10 and 11 in Figure 1.1B) of the Grenola Limestone to the lower part of the Hughes Creek Shale Member (interval between numbers 1 and 2 in Figure 1.1B) of the Foraker Limestone.

Maybe this will help, the three green area's are generally open even when the gates are open. The one exception being like I said when it was majorly flooded, The blue area is where it is usually flooded when they open the damn - that's the flood gate I've seen open up most times. Otherwise you can run that whole length, though depending on how much water is left from the last gate opening, and how deep the wholes have gotton, picking your path through all the tide pools can be a challenge. The dashed yellow is the path I was talking about to the back door. The main river flow is off to the left of that map.

Great map!

My bad, I thought Eric was asking about Tuttle gates being open.

Was considering Tuttle as a backup location in case of a rainout at Disney. Wasn't sure if everyone would still attend if it raining and storming all weekend.

I took the hard top off of the 40 the other day.....looks like that was a bad idea.

We got slammed here in Tulsa last night - water running down the road this am. If they got hit the same up there it might be enough to cause a release

I just checked the national weather service. They are saying beautiful on Fri and then showers Fri night and Sat. with not much actual rain, 1/4 to 1/2 in. Course that may change later, but doesn't sound too bad to me.
