I have a simple question: is this photo of a split rim or a older 15 inch rim?

thanks

It looks like a split rim, but I do not see the split anywhere. It could be a widow maker. If it is the later just throw it away.

Widow makers come apart in the middle of the wheel at the worst possible time, hence the name. I do see a tube valve stem.

Toyota make 2 different split rims one lock inside the other
similar to what you have lock outside .And also they come in 16" &15"The one you have is not
a Toyota.
Split rim are use through-out the world and are very safe since they
use a step locking system. That prevent the rim to come a part
even if you have a flat.
It is preferable to be aware of how they work before you start playing with it.
All my 20 Landcruisers have split rims and I never go to the tire shop

PS :Some split rims like the one you have (chevy)are not as safe as
the Toyota one for lack s.l.s. Further more you should not use a rusty rim

Happy 4x4:)

thanks

thanks for the information

rim

It is a 15 inch rim. It is running a 15 inch tire. It is definately a split rim. I can see the split in it. I cannot find any marking on it. It would be odd if it wasn't toyota as it was pulled from the underside on a ancient FJ45 LWB that had not been changed much since 1965.

Having said that....can it be definately said this is not Toyota?

If so I have to revise the EBAY ad in a hurry. I just want the thing gone and couldn't bear to toss it.

thanks

I bought a 1960 FJ25 that had all the original running gear and 15" split rims all the way around. Only problem was they were two different types and only one type fit the front axle. I figured they were off an old chevy truck. Installed my own wheels to move the vehicle. I let the PO get rid of rims which he did before I left.

I find it interesting that Toyota would make a 15" and 16" split rims during the same time frame since the other tread stated the 15" rim were off a BJ41 which would have been from the later part of the seventies and by then the 16" split rims were already around plus they all had at least a date stamp.
