What years were the split hood used? Also was it an option or a year that called for having the rubber hood supports for the windshield? The reason why I'm asking is that I have two split hoods one with the rubber and one without.

Also, is there a year specific for having body color or black for the windshield supports?

Thanks,

I think the last year for split hoods was 1970.

there was two styles of rubber windshield bumpers...then the later style that was metal with a top pad.

I think it went like this:

pre-68 was a short windshield bumped
69-75 was a tall windshiled bumper
76-84 was the metal with rubber top pad

08/71 and earlier hoods were the two-piece/split design with the chrome hood ornament.

Rubber windshield frame supports were three different styles, 1958-1965, 1966-09/71, and 09/71-01/75 until 01/75 where they changed to a metal bracket with a rubber cushion on the top of the bracket.

If you have a hood that does not have support holes or hooks for the winshiled, then someone has welded the holes closed, or, the hood was originally from a FJ-45LV wagon, as the windshields are fixed on those vehicles and do not move.

If the supports are rubber, they are left black.

If the supports are metal, they are body color.

some early hardtop cruisers didnt have windshild bumpers either...area aspecific i think.

i have seen a 64 in VT that had none ...then a 64 in NC(? i think) that had them...i kinda wondered about that :hhmm:

x2...all 45LV's didnt have them AFAIK

Have you folded your windshield down yet? I had the flat bumpers like yours on my 67 originally but when I folded my windshield my wipers always contacted my hood, therefore I swapped them out for the taller rubber bumper. AFAIK the wipers and motors on my 67 are original. Anyone else have this problem? oh an X2 on the split hoods are swell. The chrome is blingin' :grinpimp:

Yes, same issue, 9/64 pickup. But it's such a pain to take out the defrost guides to fold it down I have no intention of doing so anyway.

Yep...Me too.....No Joy with mine folded down.....I just don't drop it....much to my sons dismay.......

Thought about getting an extra windshield from a donor and making a safari windshield......

My 64 didn't have bumpers when I bought it. I purchased the bumpers (flat ones) and hooks to install during the resto. I decided against it. To much hassel to remove the defrost. x2 on getting a donor windshield. I believe you had bumpers if it was originally a softtop and none for hardtop.

My '64 did not have holes or bumpers.

To my understanding, hard tops did not get the bumpers, as soft tops did. What year that changed I do not know for sure, but I believe it was this way till at least mid 1965.

Split hood Related, The solution is to install the OEM Soft top windshield frame rail, the rail rest on the rubber bumpers wiper arms clear the hood.... problem solved!

I dont think any of the earlyer #'rs work...but...i believe this is for 69 and newer:

56313-90300 $53.41

RAIL, WINDSHIELD FRA

The channel is actually called the 'Windshield Rail" ...the number was still good a few years ago..and people were buying them...if there are no more...send MOT a pm...they still could be available in Jp

The one in the picture was a repo, since replaced with a NOS one theat came with my 40.
