I have a Toyota Land Cruiser 2002 with 205,000KM. It’s an armored vehicle, very heavy but runs great and has been very well kept (by me ;). It’s my one and only vehicle for a family of two small girls and two small dogs (and my wife off course).

About 6 months ago my speedometer started acting up. I could be driving around and everything was fine but I would hit a pot hole or a bump and the speedometer would go all the way to zero. A couple of minutes or seconds later I hit another bump and it comes back to life. If it doesn’t come back to life after about 10 minutes the check engine would turn on. The check engine is a way of the car telling me the speedometer is not working properly.

Anyway I read around before posting and what I think is happening is that below the drive box there could be a faulty or a bad connection of a blue cable of some sort.

has anyone had this issue? Any photos or ideas I could try out.

Thanks!!

Hi,

Hope this resolved already, but if not yet, here is my experience.

The problem could be due to faulty VSS (sensor in the transmission - see other posts on that), but could also be a loose connection at the instrument cluster. To see if that's the case, gently tap on the instrument cluster when the speedometer needle is down, to see if it comes back to life.

Hope this helps.
