Hi Guys, this is a strange one believe me.
04 Amazon TD. 95% of the time the speedo does not work. When you open the door and get in the needles on the cluster are vibrating and making a buzzing sound?
When the speedo does not work the engine idles with a slight pulse or surge which is present though the rev range, slight shudder on idle like an injector miss or something.
When she is running like this the economy drops off by 5 mpg at least and gear changes are more random.
Trip meter and trip computer seem unaffected.
Started her this morning and speedo worked, engine smooth, gears smooth. Started her after work back to usual messing!
I know amazons and have had dozens of them. this one stomps everyone so far.
Any ideas welcome please :)
I also have loads of parts if anyone needs anything?

Has the windshield been replaced? Maybe water leaking onto the cluster or ECU.

If you've got parts for sale, post up in the classifieds. Thanks.

Yeah checked the clocks and even swopped them . no change.. I wonder is the speedo routed via the ECU? Why is engine performance effected at the same time?

Sounds like a loose ground. The 2004 EWD in the 100 FAQ shows the two tied together in a ground "EC" located behind the engine on the firewall. ( page 76 & 380) May be different on yours. But I'd look for a ground. I have a Ford Mustang that did that to me years ago.....

I have the same issue. My speedo returns to 0mph after I shut the car off and open the driver side door. I use my iphone as a speedo. I was told it's the speedometer motors. My speed sensor is working as I've tested it through the OBDII port. Either replace the entire cluster or have it refurbished. I found that these guys can fix it, but I haven't had the time/funds to do so just yet: http://www.taninautoelectronix.com/
