I've searched and still cannot find a consensus on what type of lubricating grease to use when removing the cable and lubricating it.

I did notice most said to use a Lithium based grease but does anyone know a specific brand to use?

Thanks!:steer:

I hate the chirping bird speedo. Mine does it. I also occasionally get the cricket throwout bearing....:crybaby:

Oil behind speedo on cotton washer. Then remove cable from underneath cruiser and clean and oil. Mike

It's a B***H if you pull the housing, so just disconnect it at the head & tranny & pull the inside drive cable out.

I used AmsOil synthetic grease on mine.

If you end up having to replace the cable & housing, have the speedo shop make the new one 4-6" longer. You'll thank me. Also, if you replace it, cut off the head end of the old housing & duct tape the speedo end of the new one to it & use the old one to pull it through.

Yup X 100, when I pulled my dash it took me longer to get the speedo cable back on than pulling and replacing the dash.

What cotton washer?

I had pulled my cable 2X, used general cabe lube- it's a watery, graphite lube for all sorts of cables and chains. It didn't really help- the speedo still bounced around.

I finally ordered a new cable when I did my clutch. It was easy to replace. It made a little noise when I first replaced it, but now it is smooth and quiet. One more thing to check off the list.
