This will be the home for discussion and photos, etc of my build progress. I previously had a 2015 GX 460 black on black, premium that I added a few things to in order to make it a bit more capable in the rocky high desert of Central Oregon. I ultimately sold it in order to not have a car payment after an unexpected change in work and income. Things have stabilized a bit and I wanted to get a late model GX 460 since Toyota/Lexus has done away with the venerable V8 and I am not interested in their newer twin turbo offerings.

After shopping around I found a fair deal on a 2023 Black Line, Limited Edition in my favorite color, Nori Green. The vehicle had one owner, low miles (17000,) and it had several of the upgrades I would have put on already done by a professional shop. The original owner had only taken it lightly off-road a couple times. The truck had been pampered, all maintenance done on time and looked as new. Owner is a great guy and the deal was smooth and painless aside from coordinating the time to get down there and figuring out paying off lien, etc. But no hassles that were out of the ordinary. Vehicle is still under factory warranty and has plenty of time left on all the trial, subscription periods.

Included were the Black Line, locking crossbars with Dakine padded crossbar covers, rear cargo tonneau cover, trailer brake wiring kit (not installed yet,) Console Vault, cargo net, factory rubber floor mats, security lug nuts, and the owner also included at no cost, a new, Lunolife, truck camping air mattress that fits in the back of the truck.

The mods that were already installed on the truck include:

5 BF Goodrich K03 in 285/70/17
Fox Factory Race Series 2.5 COIL-OVER IFP Shock
ICON UCA
FOX Factory Race Series Adjustable rear shocks
CBI Rock Sliders
RIGD Ultraswing
SCS 17x8.5 Wheels K5
Accumen Rear View mirror Camera and Recording Device

There is zero rubbing even at full lock, forward or reverse. Shop did a BMC with welded endcaps, etc.

Updates and photos coming soon.

Glad you were able to get another GX, new and better too!
Looking forward to your build.

Thanks, I am thrilled to have it. I don't plan to go too wild with the build, I need to keep the third row useable until after all the kids are out of the house. As this truck is from the final year for the last of a breed, likely to never be seen again... I plan to keep it forever.

A few photos of how it is set up as purchased.

Pretty sure it is on factory height springs, the panhard bar is nearly level (1/2 inch difference.) I plan to lift 2-2.5" with heavier springs when I add long range fuel tank, skids, front and rear bumpers and roof rack.

I have gotten her dirty and wet so far, suspension handles small and mid sized trail rocks, roots and holes with aplomb. This will not be a rock crawler but a long range, family travel, camping, hunting rig. Haven't had a chance to try anything more technical yet.

First water, pretty mild. I have been through here many times on my dirt bike.

Panhard level, don't need the correction bracket yet.

Installed the SP26 Shiftpower 4.0+ Throttle Response Controller from Beat-Sonic.

Installed the Dr KDSS, KDSS disconnect switch. It's ugly but there were no blank factory switch spots to take advantage of. And it's good to get the first scratch in new vehicle quickly so you don't have to worry about it (or in this case, cutting a hole in the dash.)

When I get around to switching springs I will then add the rest of the DR KDSS bits to optimize and correct the KDSS system for the lift. I will probably add his ABS disconnect when he releases it for the GX.

Man I love that green.
Me too! Looks almost black in low light, dark green in the shade, and pops with incredible depth in the sunlight. Looks like a polished but subtle gemstone. Lexus really nailed it with this paint.

Best-looking color of the last year of one of the best vehicles Toyota ever made. So....great rig!

Welcome, and that's the dream rig right there
Agreed, and thank you. Definitely the nicest rig the bank has ever been kind enough to let me drive around.

I like your rig a lot, I have been looking closely at it for a while on the forum. Well done!

Thank you, I look forward to building it out and using the heck out of it!

Haha well once it's paid off it'll still be super nice

& thanks, appreciate it

I'll bet anything that you do not have stock suspension height. It looks way too high for stock, which, by the way, looks great!

Yup, those silver springs are definitely aftermarket. I'd opine too that your panhard bar is not quite level, so you might still benefit from a Eimkeith bracket that gives you 3 height options.

That's what I thought too! But the panhard bar is only off level by 1/2 inch. Not sure what to make of it? Doesn't look like anything has been welded in there, panhard bracket looks factory. I have 11" of ground clearance to bottom of rear differential on fairly new, 285/70 r17's.

The silver springs come with the Fox suspension. I have the bracket from DR KDSS I just haven't installed it yet as I wasn't sure if the amount of angle in the bar was significant enough to warrant the bracket.

Couple of little thing I have done but forgot to mention.

I added the following:

Secondary intake filter

No rattle, silicone license plate holders
IMG_8768.png

Vanity tag to keep with the blacked out look and cover the ugly holes on the back gate. Surprised to notice more guys don't cover that spot when license plate is relocated, and use it as a spot for a bit of flair.

I will add this Fumoto valve when I next change the oil.

My kids talked me into taking the GX to a local car show. If you are in Central Oregon today stop on by and say hello. Wild Ride Brewing car show, 1000-1500 Sat 08/24/24. Huge turnout, lots of variety, classics, late model, euro sports cars, rods, etc.

Just a small portion, the show is on the main strip and a couple side streets.
