For the second time I have broken the shock mount on my Specter skid plate - the first time I even split the plate on the bottom in half -

Now the new Specter plates are billed as EXTREME - anyone runnin them? They seem like a buncha money - :crybaby:

Thinking of just welding an extra piece across and drilling it out -

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Mine seem to be holding up fine on the roads of Central America. I've had them for 2 years so far and in that time I've busted the upper shock mount twice and all the studs off one rear wheel but no "U" bolt skid plates.

Since the hole is ripped open at the top, I doubt its from compressing the shock too hard. It looks more like the shock ran out of extension travel and ripped loose. Are you sure your shocks are long enough for your suspension?

Try the MAF kit and you will have to try hard to break it.

Thanks all -

I looked at the MAF flip kit - looked good - plus I really like their products = rock solid.

I have the Emu's that are for the lift - can not remember the extended length -

I think I will weld some 1/4" on and call it good...

I had a pair of the SOR extreme duty rear plates, and they distorted badly during installation - shoulda taken a pic, they just bent to s*** - and that was only at 70 ft lbs. No way they would have worked at 90 ft lbs, the welds were pulling apart. I sent them back. I think it's MAF u-bolt flips, or stock. (I can't weld, so make my own's not an option. )

crap! I just put a set of their "extreme" u bolt skid plates in the 60.

I wheel fairly hard, so maybe I'll throw the old ubolt plates in the truck for safe keeping!

I'll let you guys know if i break them. I have 2 trips coming up this month.

I managed to break them (sort of). This summer, I was trying to get up a obstacle, and kept getting hung up on a rock. I couldn't get my back tire on it, so I just used the stupid peddle. I smacked the rock pretty hard; managing to spin off the lower drivers side shock mount nut, smashed the shock up against the axle tube, bent the MAF mount, (F'd up the threads too) and finally broke a spring center pin. Anyway, MAF offered to repair it. All I had to do is pay for shipping. I shipped it off and a week later I got the lower plate/mount back good as new. All I can say is that I've only had good luck with MAF, especially with dealing with Steve (Steve-O on the board???).
