Anyone swap out their speakers? I have a 89 fj62 and the speakers just don't do it. I want to leave the radio that is in it (it's a cd player that came out of a celica that looks original, same color and all), but would like to get some more sound. Any suggestions? Don't care for the thump, thump that you hear at the redlight, just something a little louder.

rears are 6.5" I have Infinity Kappa's and doors I have yet to figure out. As I have some that will fit 5.25" I think, but they are too deep for the window :(

There was a post earlier this year about stereo systems in 60 series' Some cool pics and info came up, check it out.

I think the stock front door speakers are 4"...I replaced mine front and rear w/ pioneers. If you want some mo betta sound you could put separate tweeters high up in the front doors and/or speakers in the rear doors

components up front makes a world of difference. but if you want something simple - just replace the front speakers with a decent aftermarket brand. I put in some JVC I think and they sounded worlds better.

Anything is better than the stock paper speakers. I have 4.25 Alpines in the front and Infinity References (w/ built in "directional" tweeter) in the back. I was able to keep the stock grills in both applications.

For the front, I still think the best way to attack it is to build kickpanels. This way you can run a "real" 6.5" or so speaker. Something that matches your rear speakers. I'd say component set (separate tweeter) is a good investment. But make sure you sound proof or you won't notice the difference!
