Searched all the posts on speakers that fit in the stock locations. The two brands mentioned (eclipse and blaupunkt model) are no longer available. Has anyone done a replacement recently with speakers that are readily available on the market? Keep in mind:

1. I want it to look stock
2. I dont need great sound - just good sound.
3. Im planning on replacing the head unti soon with a newer toyota or scion deck.

Thanks!

Eclipse SE8355 and SE8245?!!!

(FRONT) Pioneer TS-G1340R, 5.25" 2Way 300W for $50.

Extra stuff...
1. (8) 14x1" screws
2. (8) 1/2" nylon spacer

Rich,

I had my Alpine speakers installed at Magnolia Hi-Fi. The speakers were on sale, something like 15% off retail. Plus I paid for installation. I believe it was something like $60. They did a fantastic job. It looks very stock and the speakers are awesome.

Yes I could have gotten the speakers a little less expensive online, but when I look at the total amount of money I spent to have them installed. It was very well worth it. Installation was less than a full tank of gas (California).

I used a pair of Kenwood I bought at Best Buy. When I get home today I'll post the model number.

Actually do a search...I posted all the info when I installed them. I opted to use my factory speaker covers.

Thanks to everyone who posted info. Thats what makes this board great. I appreciate all the help. I was able to find the blaupunkt's but only at some shady looking online sites (ya never know) and they were 100$ a pair. I'll look up the remiander of the choices you listed and do the install this weekend! Thanks!!

WHY? I'm sure you have a reason but this just makes no sense to me.

Blind Man,

The new Toyota or Scion head units have aux line inputs.
And I believe some of them play MP3 CDs. They are also dirt cheap.

What's cheap? I can see there being a market because people usually sell the s***ty factory decks for a good aftermarket.

If your going to go through the trouble I'd pay the extra and get a good aftermarket deck. They have line inputs, remotes (great for camping, tailgating etc.) and outputs (if you ever decide to go amped or want to plug in a party box)

Some Sony XPlode speakers are 1.75 inch mounting depth. I have a set that the PO put in my '94, they sound fine- actually I was suprised at how much bass they produce. Not for an audiophile, but fine for average Joe.

Blindman,

I personally would not get one of these. But, you can find pretty good deals on factory head units on ebay. For people that are OK with factory sound, these factory head units are fine.

Check out MB Quart RUA 216. They are seperates - not coax's, but perfect for our shallow application.
http://www.mbquart.com/en/produkte/car/reference/produkt.php?nr=rua_216

Woofers with extremely shallow plastic chassis for
optimized installation in stock locations with limited
mounting depths (only 1.65”)

Ive used MBQ's twice and they are awesome. They can however be a little spendy if you are looking for just good sound and not awesome sound.

Cheap but still good are Pioneers.

I called the folks at Crutchfield and they were helpful in finding a pair for the front doors that sounded good and were nearly a factory fit. I had to call because their website did not show anything as a exact replacement for the factory dimensions. I made a thin spacer ring out of plywood, and preserved the factory appearance on our '92.

Thanks psfpilot. I'll try calling them as well. Their website showed that nothing fit.

In response to the factory deck question: I just want a good cheap replacement that looks stock. I HATE when an aftermarket stereo makes the dask look like s*&t. Thats just me...

I called Crutchfiled and they hooked me with a pair of Kenwoods for the front door speakers. They fit just like the eclipses mentioned in FAQ.

They cost around 50.00 and got them the next day.
