spare tire well in UZJ100, U.S. spec can't fit anything there (including sub-tank)?

Hi all -

I was going to use John Holmaas' solution for raising up the spare tire under the truck by using spacers on the mounting cross-member bolts. This would raise the whole crossmember upward, into the space normally reserved for the factory sub-tank. However, crawling around under my truck today, I see there is some kind of box bolted in that location with various hard and soft lines running to/from it (meaning I can't relocate very easily). I suppose this is the condenser or some such thing for the rear AC unit? Is this only on U.S. spec models? It pretty much precludes using John's idea, unfortunately.

Thanks,

derek-

do you have an LX or an LC? if it's an LX, then it could be a suspension compenent.

Aaron -

It's a Cruiser, not a LX. I thought about that, but it's hard to trace the lines without dropping the spare. I guess that's my next step. What else could Toyota have put back there?

Thanks,

Is it the wiring for the built in electric brake controller for a trailer?

Aha, that could be. But why the hard lines? I still think it's rear AC, maybe Toyota installed a separate condenser after a certain model year? Alright, I guess I'll try to crawl under there when I get home from work. :-)

Thanks,

I think this is where the Charcol cansister has ended up in the later years. You may have to move some stuff around. later robbie
