Hey all,
I didnt get the crank to lower the spare tire down...Do you all have any suggestions how I can get it down without it? Has anyone rigged anything they could suggest, or maybe one from another vehicle would work?
I checked with Toyota to get a new one, thinking it would be like 20 bucks or so...They wanted 65 bucks:eek: . I looked the dude straight in the eye and told him, "youre CRAZY". He laughed and replies..."its not us, its Toyota and we hear that all the time."
My next step is the saw zall.

What other vehicles do you own? One of them may have a crank similar to what you need so that you can at least get it down from under the truck.

Maybe one of you neighbors has one you can use.

Ebay, junk yard, classifieds. I had the old fj55 crank and used it for my 62 for a while. That just has a T at the end of a steel rod, anything like that will work.

Good luck

Ill check that out in the morning to see if my F 150 crank will work. I really didnt think about that.

Thanks,

Chicago

i ran into the same problem yesterday.i made this tool and it works well for cranking down the spare. the crank works easily so it does not require anything as heavy duty as i made. the round thing on end is 3/8 inch cold roll steel. something flat would work also. you will still need the hook tool that comes in jack tool kit to fit the factory jack. good luck. when I first got my 60...it came with a 2 foot long T made out of rebar with a 1.5 inch piece (about 3/8" diameter) of wire welded at the tip. This worked fine for PO and myself...If you were in austin, I'd give to you...

When I had my Taco, it was missing the crank. I got a long, one piece crank from the dealer for less than $20. Maybe ask for one from a newer vehicle.

The one on my 91 toyota pu works, as does the one from my buddies 98 nissan 4wd. I made one out of 3/8 cold roll 3ft long with a 2" t on one end and a 6 inch "L" on the other. Had to bend it just a bit because of the gay trailer ball over bumper mount thing PO put on.
